The implementation included design and configuration of the MicroStrategy project schema and architecture, with changes applied to the logical data model to satisfy business requests. Development work created and modified attributes, facts, hierarchies and transformation objects, and employed schema modeling techniques such as compound attributes, heterogeneous mapping and role attributes via table aliasing. Logical table sizes were tuned within the MicroStrategy project schema to influence SQL engine table selection and reduce improper join patterns.
Reporting and visualization capabilities were implemented across MicroStrategy components including Administrator, Architect, Desktop, Web, Object Manager, Enterprise Manager, Office and Report Services. Developers built logical views and used the free form SQL editor for complex reports, and authored reports using prompts, filters, advanced filters, custom groups and consolidations. Scorecards and advanced dashboards were delivered in both interactive and flash modes, with panel stacks, complex grids and graphs and custom widgets such as time series sliders, gauges and bubble graphs. Distribution Services and Report Services were used to deliver documents and subscriptions directly to business users and to export reports to Excel and PDF.
The implementation operated against SQL Server 2008 for warehouse queries and used SQL Assistant to validate report SQL during testing. Quality and testing practices included User Acceptance Testing and defect tracking using Rally Software and HP Quality Center 10.0. Operational practices included on-call support and iterative enhancements, with the MicroStrategy ONE Analytics environment supporting ongoing report delivery and business user consumption.
