In 2019, AirAsia implemented Esker Accounts Payable, deploying the Esker Accounts Payable AP Automation solution to operationalize Procure To Pay workflows across its finance organization. The initial rollout focused on strengthening accounts payable processing, payment orchestration and vendor account management for a multinational transportation operator.
Esker Accounts Payable was configured to support payment transaction orchestration, payment plan preparation for treasury and country finance review, multi currency bank file uploads and multiple payment methods. Functional capabilities implemented include automated invoice intake and routing aligned to Procure To Pay, monthly bank reconciliation, vendor aging reporting, ad hoc payment handling, intercompany transfers and refund processing.
The implementation integrated with Oracle Cloud Application and Microsoft Dynamics AX for master data synchronization and AP posting, and it was used to generate bank upload files for different banks and payment rails. Operational coverage extended across treasury, country finance, accounts payable operations and related cross functional teams responsible for payment exception resolution.
Governance and process control were formalized around payment plan preparation and review cycles driven by treasury and country finance, with collaborative workflows for resolving payment related issues. Day to day operational ownership documented by AirAsia includes ensuring payment timing, uploading payments in multiple currencies and methods, monthly bank reconciliation and vendor aging management under the Esker Accounts Payable deployment.

The implementation leveraged Eightfold’s built‑in interview scheduling capability to orchestrate calendar coordination and automate candidate and interviewer booking tasks, and it was integrated with AirAsia’s Workday ATS to synchronize candidate records and interview events. Functional configuration focused on automated calendar coordination, interviewer availability alignment, and scheduling orchestration embedded in recruiting workflows, enabling recruiters to manage bookings through the application and the ATS.
Governance and rollout were executed as part of the companywide Talent Acquisition deployment across AirAsia’s APAC operations, aligning scheduling workflows with ATS processes and recruiter operating procedures. The deployment achieved a documented 48% reduction in scheduling coordination time and improved recruiter efficiency across APAC operations, a result that is described in the public case study.

AirAsia implemented Google Cloud Machine Learning Engine in 2017 to introduce predictive models for ancillary service demand. The ML and Data Science Platforms deployment was scoped to sort and predict demand for ancillary services such as baggage, seats, and meals, aligning the application with commercial pricing and ancillary revenue management objectives.
Using Google Cloud Machine Learning Engine, AirAsia began with basic sorting capabilities trained on historical booking and transaction data to forecast demand patterns for individual ancillary products. In March 2018 the airline established the groundwork to expand from that basic sorting exercise to more advanced algorithmic models, signaling a staged approach to increasing model complexity and production readiness.
Operational coverage focused on ancillary revenue streams rather than core reservation processing, impacting pricing, revenue management, and merchandising functions. Governance and rollout were organized as iterative model releases, moving from simple demand-sorting workflows toward planned pricing and bundling experiments, with an explicitly stated end goal of having the system determine optimal customer pricing.
