In 2023, Amazon deployed SAP S/4 HANA as the ERP Financial system for Project Kuiper. The implementation targeted Amazon Kuiper Manufacturing Enterprises LLC to provide enterprise applications needed to design, build, and operate the program's business services, and it was scoped to own and operate core ERP systems critical to Project Kuiper. The SAP S/4 HANA deployment was organized to run end to end business processes supporting manufacturing related finance and program accounting while coordinating feature definition and requirements with Amazon Corporate systems. Integration with Amazon Corporate systems was an explicit part of the program scope and required cross organizational coordination.
Configuration and functional design concentrated on SAP S/4 HANA financial modules, including general ledger, accounts receivable, accounts payable, asset management, project system, cost center accounting, product cost controlling, profitability analysis, and profit center accounting. The implementation included mapping for compliance with Cost Accounting Standards and prioritized transactional finance, project accounting, and cost controlling workflows. The program emphasized technical and functional orchestration, with responsibilities to define and prioritize SAP product features and manage feature delivery with engineering teams.
Technical validation and operational readiness were driven through proof of concepts to validate proposed solutions, followed by unit testing, system integration testing, user acceptance testing, and user training to operationalize SAP S/4 HANA. The role profile signals close collaboration between software development and SAP teams to build required features and to document and manage cross system dependencies. Integration workstreams explicitly referenced Amazon Corporate systems as the primary external integration boundary for financial and operational data flows.
Governance for the SAP S/4 HANA rollout used product management disciplines, including defining vision, goals, tenets, monthly business reviews, and established escalation channels to maintain delivery momentum. Program management responsibilities included scope, schedule, budget, quality, risk and critical path management while driving consensus among cross functional stakeholders. In 2014, Amazon deployed UKG Workforce Central Absence Manager (ex Kronos Workforce Absence Manager) to support Absence and Leave Management for its HR, timekeeping, and payroll functions across the enterprise workforce. The UKG Workforce Central Absence Manager implementation was positioned to centralize absence tracking and integrate absence procedures into existing time and attendance operations for Amazon.
Implementation work included configuration of web servers and application servers for the Kronos environment, installation and balancing of clock communication servers, and provisioning of Kronos terminals and Data Collection Manager components. Functional modules implemented and configured included Timekeeper, Leave, Attendance, Scheduler (Basic and Advanced Scheduler), Workforce Scheduling and Forecasting components, Analytics, and HR/Payroll related modules, with explicit configuration of pay rules, work rules, holiday schedules, schedule groups, pay code distributions, break handling, accrual profiles, security profiles, and labor level sets.
The deployment incorporated Workforce Integration Manager and Connect components to maintain the flow of data between Workforce Device Manager and Workforce Central, and to support data movement into HR and payroll processes. Maintaining clock-to-system synchronization, monitoring clock activity, and managing the flow of device data were part of the operational integration responsibilities.
Governance and operationalization activities included preparation of requirement documents for Workforce Timekeeper configuration, authoring and editing test procedures used for upgrades across modules such as HR/Payroll, Timekeeper, Leave, Attendance, WDM, WIM, Scheduler, and Analytics, and providing subject matter expertise and application support. Configuration work emphasized automated alerts, attendance rule setups, and ongoing administration of pay rule and security profile changes to align system behavior with Amazon business policies.

In 2017 Amazon implemented Salesforce Field Service (ex ClickSoftware) as its Field Service Management platform. The deployment emphasized core field service capabilities including scheduling and dispatch, mobile workforce enablement, work order and service appointment management, and parts and inventory tracking. Salesforce Field Service (ex ClickSoftware) was configured to align with enterprise service operations and to integrate with Service Cloud case workflows.
Configuration and customization extended to Salesforce Communities and integrations with ExactTarget, Apttus CPQ, and Commerce Cloud, reflecting documented experience with those platforms. Custom Communities work supported technician and customer self-service interfaces and tailored access to field schedules and service histories. Apttus CPQ workstreams were used to synchronize quote to service order handoffs while ExactTarget integrations supported customer and technician communications.
Operational scope focused on field operations and customer service functions, with deployment activities oriented to business readiness and staged end user enablement across service teams. The program included change management and business readiness activities to deploy Service Cloud, Field Service Lightning and Communities to end users, and established configuration governance for service process changes. Governance practices emphasized release control within the Salesforce platform and alignment of work order lifecycles to standard service workflows.
Architecturally the solution was provisioned on the Salesforce platform, using Service Cloud as the case and workflow backbone and leveraging Commerce Cloud touchpoints for commerce to service continuity. Integrations with ExactTarget and Apttus CPQ provided synchronization of communications and transactional handoffs to preserve end to end service orchestration. This implementation positions Salesforce Field Service (ex ClickSoftware) as an integrated Field Service Management capability within Amazon service operations.
