| Oracle | Legacy | Oracle E-Business Suite | ERP Financial | ERP Financial Management | n/a | 2015 | 2016 |
In 2015, American Axle & Manufacturing implemented Oracle E-Business Suite as its core ERP Financial application. The R12 deployment kicked off in early 2015 as a company-wide, multi-year ERP re-implementation to standardize business processes across Corporate and Driveline facilities, with a staged rollout scheduled January 1, 2015 for U.S. sites, April 1, 2015 for AAM do Brazil, Third Quarter 2015 for Mexico sites, and early 2016 for AAM Asia, AAM India and AAM Europe sites.
The Oracle E-Business Suite implementation focused on a set of functional modules and configuration changes including Materials and Inventory Control to enforce standard plant processes and greater use of Oracle for supplier scheduling, Supplier Lifecycle Management to manage supplier profiles and self-service updates, iProcurement to enable self-service requisitioning and catalog-driven indirect procurement, and Oracle Quality to centralize quality data. The Production Part Approval Process PPAP solution used by suppliers was replaced by an Oracle-based PPAP workflow, and purchase order behavior was redesigned so Standard Purchase Orders are re-issued under R12 with the same PO number, Blanket Purchase Agreements retain their numbers but reset revision numbering to zero on first issuance, and releases against Blanket POs are replaced by Standard Purchase Orders that reference the Blanket PO.
Operational coverage and system relationships were explicitly defined, with Oracle used across Global Driveline and Corporate facilities while the Metal Formed Products Business Unit moved to the Plex SAAS ERP for 2014, requiring separate logins and supplier access for Plex. Supplier interaction points were expanded in the iSupplier Portal to allow self-management of contacts, banking, certifications, and improved Purchase Order visibility including PDF download capability, and the program standardized commercial terms by adopting Incoterms prior to R12 launches in each region.
Governance and process changes were emphasized, aligning the re-implementation with AAMs Lean philosophy to establish common global processes, improve data integrity and information flow, and enhance supply chain management capabilities. Supplier enablement and change management were delivered through eLearning hosted on the AAM iSupplier portal covering production forecasts, direct material pulls and Advanced Shipping Notices, purchase order review and acknowledgement, payment information, bulletins and specifications, and the new PPAP screens. Communication channels for the supplier community included the AAM iSupplier Portal at www.aam.com/suppliers.html, the Supplier Portal at http://www.aam.com/Suppliers/Systems-Communications, buyers of record, whq.suppliercommunication@AAM.com, and AccountsPayable@aam.com.
The project objectives were to establish common global business processes in Global Driveline and Corporate facilities, improve data integrity and information flow, enhance supply chain management capabilities, and provide Global Supplier Partners greater functionality in the iSupplier Portal. Supplier expectations included obtaining appropriate iSupplier credentials, verifying contact and banking information, participating in informational calls, completing Oracle eLearning modules, and coordinating across systems when suppliers transact with both Driveline and MFPBU sites.

| IBM | Legacy | IBM Maximo | Enterprise Asset Management | ERP Services and Operations | n/a | 2015 | 2015 |
In 2015, American Axle & Manufacturing implemented IBM Maximo as its Enterprise Asset Management platform to consolidate two separate Maximo environments into a single, supported instance. The company engaged Cohesive Solutions to manage the conversion, upgrade, and migration, and Cohesive leveraged SRO Solutions SDU zero downtime upgrade tool together with a streamlined version of its Momentum Methodology to coordinate the work and minimize operational impact.
The technical implementation built a new clustered IBM Maximo environment on current supported Oracle database versions and virtualized Windows Server infrastructure. A reusable library of data migration mappings was created to accelerate migration and data clean up, and the program was executed in two waves. The first wave used the SDU tool to upgrade Maximo from version 7.1 to 7.6, and the second wave migrated selected data from the original SQL Server database into the new Maximo 7.6 Oracle database leveraging the SDU mappings produced in wave one, including URL mappings to preserve user continuity.
Project governance was driven by Cohesive Solutions using its Momentum Methodology to plan cutovers, coordinate the SDU tooling, and stage the two-wave sequence to avoid production disruption. The operation included consolidation of databases and reporting systems to provide a unified support model for multiple sites and planned global rollouts, with the implementation approach designed to limit internal IT operational burden by outsourcing complex upgrade tasks to the external team.
Reported outcomes were completed upgrade and migration with zero downtime and no unplanned issues, completion of both waves within the initial budget for wave one, and reduced operational complexity through a single consolidated Maximo instance. Functional benefits included an up-to-date, fully supported IBM Maximo 7.6 offering expanded capabilities such as multi language support, consolidated support and reporting, and reduced cost and staff time due to the zero downtime approach. The AAM team also signaled next steps to integrate Maximo with its ERP system and pursue a five to seven year roadmap to extend and consolidate global Maximo usage.
