| Workday | Oracle PeopleSoft ERP | Workday Financial Management | ERP Financial | ERP Financial Management | n/a | 2020 | 2021 |
In 2020, American Family Insurance implemented Workday Financial Management to replace Oracle PeopleSoft ERP. The two year, $4.2 million, 17,000 hour program was led by the Technology Project Manager who directed a team of over 40 technologists and coordinated all workstreams and testing to achieve a controlled cutover.
Workday Financial Management was configured to deliver core ERP Financial capabilities including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, procurement, fixed asset accounting, cash management and financial reporting. Configuration work emphasized tenant provisioning, security role model alignment to the finance organization, and orchestration of period close and intercompany accounting workflows.
The program delivered over 80 integrations to connect source transaction systems, downstream reporting stores and third party services, with integration development executed under agile sprints. The technology team managed end to end integration testing and coordinated with the System Integrator to sequence interfaces and staging environments.
Governance was run in an agile model with the Technology Project Manager serving as Certified Scrum Master, providing weekly executive updates, managing budgets and hour usage, and directing SI contractor services. The deployment impacted finance, accounting, treasury and procurement functions, went live on time with no significant issues, and the System Integrator noted it as the most uneventful go live they had experienced.

| Workday | Legacy | Workday Absence Management | Absence and Leave Management | HCM | n/a | 2017 | 2017 |
In 2017 American Family Insurance implemented Workday Absence Management as part of a broader Workday HCM and payroll initiative, deploying the application to support Absence and Leave Management across payroll and HR operations. The deployment was aligned with enterprise payroll responsibilities that included processing and reconciling W-2 and W-2C records for two company entities covering approximately 12,000 employees, and coordination with Connect Auto and Home HCM/payroll implementations.
Configuration work centered on standard absence and leave capabilities within Workday Absence Management, including time off and leave types, entitlement and balance calculations, absence workflows, and integrations with Time and Attendance and Compensation processes. The team also maintained related payroll configuration, configuring earnings and deductions, tax setups, and garnishment settings to ensure absence data fed payroll calculations and deductions accurately.
Integrations explicitly included payroll flow connections to a new benefits vendor and a new 401k vendor, and the outsourcing of garnishments to ADP which required configuration changes and testing in Workday. The implementation was executed alongside Financials and HCM projects, involving end-to-end testing, parallel testing and architect sessions with affiliated business units such as The General, and produced a set of payroll reports and reconciliations tied to absence data.
Governance and operationalization were driven by payroll and payroll business systems analysts who designed and coordinated testing plans, created new payroll-to-financials processes, oversaw tax and quarterly tax reconciliation, and conducted cross-training across Time and Attendance, Compensation and Absence processes. Documentation and testing artifacts were used to control rollout and to validate integrations between Workday Absence Management, payroll processing, benefits and third party garnishment handling.

| Broadcom | Legacy | AppWorx Workload Automation | Business Process Management | ERP Services and Operations | n/a | 2018 | 2018 |
In 2018 American Family Insurance implemented AppWorx Workload Automation as part of its Business Process Management capability. The deployment integrated AppWorx Workload Automation into Cloudera-managed Hadoop clusters on Red Hat Linux to provide centralized scheduling and orchestration for batch data pipelines and analytic workloads.
AppWorx Workload Automation was configured to orchestrate job flows across Oozie pipelines and native AppWorx schedules, coordinating Pig, Hive, Spark and MapReduce executions and controlling data ingestion driven by Flume and Sqoop. The implementation managed downstream bulk loads into HBase and supported extraction of aggregated datasets into Oracle for reporting, with Spark SQL and Scala based reporting applications consuming the orchestrated outputs.
Integrations included Cloudera Manager for cluster monitoring, Zookeeper for coordination, HDFS for storage, Hive and HBase for analytical storage, Spark for transformations, and Oracle for reporting layers. Operational coverage emphasized data engineering and analytics functions, supporting ingestion of customer behavioral data, transformation, and scheduled report generation used by analytics and reporting teams.
Governance and operations were organized around centralized workload orchestration, using AppWorx Workload Automation alongside Oozie and Data Pipeline Operational Services to standardize job sequencing and cross system dependencies. Continuous monitoring and cluster management were maintained via Cloudera Manager while AppWorx served as the principal control plane for cross component workflow coordination.
