In 2018, Axon Enterprise implemented Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations as its ERP Financial platform to unify finance, supply chain, retail, warehouse and sales operations. The deployment targeted core business functions including financial management, project accounting, professional services automation and customer engagement, positioning Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations as the central transactional system for finance and operations workflows.
The implementation encompassed a broad set of functional modules, including Accounts Receivable, Inventory management, Procurement and sourcing, Product Information Management, Retail, Sales and marketing, Warehouse management and Transportation management, General Ledger, Fixed Assets, Accounts Payable, Project Accounting, Professional Services Automation and Expense Management. Technical configuration included creation of Business Events in D365, authoring and customizing data entities for Data Management, scripting export-import routines to migrate data from AX 2012 using data entities, and continued use of AIF custom services for legacy integration patterns where applicable.
Integrations were implemented with specialist ISVs such as AvaTax from Avalara for tax calculation and NMB for shipping, and the architecture used Azure integration components during troubleshooting and operations. Integration developers worked across Logic App, Service Bus, Event Grid, Key Vaults, Topics and Queues to resolve messaging and connectivity issues, while deployments and environment lifecycle were managed through LCS and Azure DevOps processes.
Operational governance combined technical and functional leadership, with the program providing direction to ERP and Salesforce implementation teams and managing a functional team covering Financials, Project Accounting, CRM and D365 Operations and Finance. Project governance included preparing, planning, prioritizing and monitoring subprojects, allocating resources to align with the project plan, producing technical design from functional specifications and using runbooks for environment provisioning, restoring environments, applying hotfixes and deploying custom and ISV models.
