Hyperledger Legacy Hyperledger Fabric Blockchain Platform Blockchain n/a 2017 2017
In 2017 Bank of Spain implemented Hyperledger Fabric as a Blockchain Platform to initiate internal blockchain experimentation and pilot programs. The engagement established Hyperledger Fabric as the technical foundation for a permissioned ledger pilot, conducted in parallel with Corda to evaluate alternative distributed ledger architectures. The Hyperledger Fabric deployment emphasized a permissioned network architecture, using Fabric chaincode for business logic, channel isolation for transaction privacy, and a certificate authority model for identity and access control. Implementation work aligned with core Blockchain Platform components such as endorsement policies and ordering service to validate transaction finality and governance models. The pilot combined Hyperledger Fabric with Corda, reflecting a multi‑platform evaluation and practical interoperability testing, and leveraged on-site developer secondments to build proofs of concept. A developer seconded to Bank of Spain from October 2018 to April 2019 participated in building the pilot using Corda and Hyperledger Fabric, contributing to integration work and test network operations. Operational focus targeted bank-level functions typical of central bank research, including interbank settlement workflows and transaction reconciliation, with governance organized around controlled test networks and developer-driven validation cycles. Hyperledger Fabric served as the primary Blockchain Platform for these experiments, providing the modular ledger and identity controls required for central bank proof of concept work.

NASDAQ ION Wallstreet Suite NASDAQ Calypso Treasury & Liquidity Treasury Management TRM n/a 2020 2020
In 2020, Bank of Spain implemented NASDAQ Calypso Treasury & Liquidity as its Treasury Management platform, replacing ION Wallstreet Suite. The deployment targeted central treasury operations and sought to centralize cash and liquidity control for the institution, aligning application ownership with the treasury desk and front office market operations teams. The NASDAQ Calypso Treasury & Liquidity implementation concentrated on core Treasury Management capabilities typical of the product family, including deal capture and lifecycle processing, cash and liquidity management, liquidity forecasting and intraday cash visibility, accounting and settlement orchestration, and payment workflow support. Configuration work emphasized front to back reconciliation, instrument coverage for money market and FX instruments, and treasury accounting rules consistent with central bank reporting needs. Integration workstreams were structured to connect Calypso with the Bank of Spain's core accounting and settlement systems, payment rails and SWIFT messaging flows, and market data feeds for pricing and reference data. Data migration and conversion replaced transactional records from ION Wallstreet Suite, and interfaces were scoped for straight through processing between trading, treasury operations and downstream accounting ledgers. Governance established program level steering with treasury leadership and an external treasury system expert who had prior Calypso implementations at Banque de France and the Central Bank of Cyprus, this consultant role supported design decisions and operational rollout. The rollout followed phased operational pilots and user acceptance processes, paired with updated workflow ownership and treasury operational procedures to align front office, operations and accounting teams with the new Treasury Management platform.
