In 2014, Billerud Americas implemented SAP ERP ECC 6.0 as its ERP Financial backbone. The SAP ERP ECC 6.0 deployment was configured to support core financial operations and was delivered with HCLTech engaged as the system integrator and ongoing support provider.
Implementation covered standard SAP FI and CO capabilities configured for general ledger, accounts payable and accounts receivable workflows, and included BI and ALM support stacks referenced in operational documentation. Technical maintenance and platform stabilization activities performed during and after the rollout included SAP support pack upgrades, data archiving, Unicode conversion, an operating system conversion from Windows to AIX, and a data center migration.
Operational coverage extended across four locations and approximately 1000 active ERP users, with responsibility split between on site and offshore teams, a 30 member SAP team, and about 20 collaborating specialists. The SAP ERP ECC 6.0 instance was integrated with HRIS, manufacturing execution systems MES, transportation management systems TMS, and EDI messaging to align financial transactions with operational systems.
Governance and support processes were formalized through ITIL based Service Operations and a Known Error Database process to accelerate problem resolution, with service delivery managed against SLAs by HCLTech. Consolidation work after mergers and carve outs, hardware migration and landscape upgrade initiatives were executed as part of sustaining operations to keep SAP ERP ECC 6.0 aligned with enterprise controls and compliance requirements.

In 2018, Billerud Americas implemented OnitX CLM. OnitX CLM was adopted as the Contract Lifecycle Management application to centralize contract handling for sourcing, procurement, and corporate fleet management workflows.
The OnitX CLM deployment focused on core contract lifecycle capabilities including a centralized contract repository, template and clause management, approval and signature workflows, obligation tracking, and contract event notifications. Configuration reflected heavy sourcing use cases, specifically verification of price adjustments for raw materials and MRO items under contracted price change mechanisms, and support for RFP and sourcing event lifecycles used by sourcing analysts.
Operationally the OnitX CLM environment was positioned alongside the SAP ERP landscape, supporting Procure to Pay handoffs and material and vendor master governance. Billerud team members used Innowera and SQVI to extract and mass change SAP data for material master and vendor master processes, and OnitX CLM records were used to inform procurement workflows and sourcing decision files in that integrated operational stack.
Governance and process ownership were explicit, with a designated sourcing analyst acting as Onit contract management system manager and process owner for inflation budgeting and monthly management inflation reporting across chemicals, pulp, energy, and wood categories. The implementation emphasized contract control, RFP facilitation, and embedded sourcing workflows, aligning contract authoring and lifecycle events with existing SAP master data and Procure to Pay process governance.
