The implementation was coordinated with on-premise SAP functions for ordering of consumables and a SAP-based time manager, reflecting functional integration between AP Automation and procurement and time management processes. Operational scope spanned finance, travel and expense administration, procurement for consumables, facilities support for meetings, and laboratory administration tied to LIMS invoicing.
Governance centered on centralized invoice workflows and alignment with existing travel policies and LIMS administrative procedures, with process mapping for travel expense invoicing and standardized handling of courier and meeting-related charges. In 2016, Boehringer Ingelheim implemented SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central Time Off as the Absence and Leave Management component of a global SAP SuccessFactors rollout. The SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central Time Off deployment was delivered alongside Employee Central, Performance & Goals, Compensation, Onboarding, Succession, Reporting & Analytics and the SuccessFactors Mobile App to provide a unified HR core for absence, entitlement and time reporting.
Configuration work centered on establishing a global baseline for absence types, entitlement and accrual rules, and manager and employee self service approval workflows, with country specific variants for statutory leave where required. The implementation applied standard Absence and Leave Management functional terminology such as time off requests, leave balances, accrual processing and approval routing, and aligned workflows to global HR process definitions.
Integrations were explicit and substantial, including OpenText for eFile and document generation, WalkMe for in-app guidance, and a complex end to end integration footprint to more than 30 other systems. The program migrated over 70,000 employees, contingent workers and pensioners with about 17.5 million data points and executed a big bang go live after an 18 month project duration covering 70 countries.
Operational governance was centralized within global HR and GBS, with a named system owner managing SAP SuccessFactors and related platforms, and service delivery coordinated across GBS centers in Germany, Poland, the Philippines and Argentina. Implementation responsibilities included harmonizing People and Org data administration, embedding HR reporting and analytics, and establishing process management and compliance controls to govern absence and leave workflows.
