In 2013 Brisbane City Council deployed Hitachi Ellipse EAM, formerly ABB Ability Ellipse EAM, as its Enterprise Asset Management platform to support asset and maintenance operations for Brisbane Transport and the council’s Building and Asset Services. The implementation was centered on operational asset and service management, providing a system of record for charter bookings, resource scheduling, maintenance work orders and administrative processing across transport charter and special events functions.
Configuration and functional coverage included booking and servicing workflows for the City Trans Charters and Special Event department, data entry and master data maintenance for assets and fleet, transactional handling of accounts, billing and invoicing, and the creation and approval of purchase orders and plumbing approvals. Staff used Hitachi Ellipse EAM for receipting, raising orders, and maintaining customer correspondence, embedding asset lifecycle and financial transaction workflows into day to day operations.
The deployment operated in a hosted Ellipse environment for Building and Asset Services where performance testing and server dependency mapping were completed, using HP Load Runner to develop load scripts and validate Ellipse server interactions. Operational data was entered and maintained across electronic Data Speed, Ifbis and Ellipse data systems, with related revenue and approvals information referenced in RIMS and other council office packages such as DART and Bimap for records management and decision support.
Governance and process changes emphasized centralized data stewardship and transactional discipline, with front line teams responsible for timely recording of bookings and maintenance activities and business services teams managing invoicing, approvals and database integrity. The implementation concentrated on embedding Ellipse into existing customer service and administrative routines across Brisbane Transport and broader council business services, supported by targeted performance testing to validate the hosted Ellipse architecture.
