In 2023 Butterball implemented SAP S/4 HANA as its ERP Financial platform, replacing SAP ERP ECC 6.0. The S/4 HANA deployment was scoped to centralize core finance and accounting across Butterball, targeting general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, asset accounting, intercompany accounting, tax and treasury ledgers for the United States operations of the company.
The SAP S/4 HANA implementation leveraged standard ERP Financial capabilities including harmonized chart of accounts, centralized master data, financial close orchestration, ledger consolidation and embedded analytics and reporting. Configuration work emphasized account mapping, period end close sequence, document flow and role based Fiori applications to support finance end users and controllers.
Architecturally the program used the S/4 HANA data model to consolidate transactional finance records and to reduce reconciliation points between subledgers and the general ledger. Data migration and master data harmonization were core activities, with a focus on converting SAP ERP ECC 6.0 finance structures into S/4 HANA universal journal structures and maintaining continuity of financial master records.
Program governance was organized under a centralized program office led by a Butterball Program Manager, with formal migration oversight noted from July 2024 in program leadership records. The rollout approach emphasized phased cutover planning, data migration validation and finance process stabilization, aligning finance, accounting and treasury teams to new workflows and support models for post go live operations.

In 2008, Butterball implemented SAP HCM (HR) as its Core HR platform on SAP ECC 6.0 to support a global HR standardization effort. The implementation centered on standardizing HR master data and HR event processes across the organization, aligning personnel structures and organizational units for centralized Core HR operations.
Configuration work focused on SAP Personnel Administration and Organizational Management, the primary SAP HCM modules deployed. The project delivered detailed functional designs and configuration for PA and OM, defined pay scale structures including pay scale type, area, group and levels, created payroll areas and control records, and configured payroll procedures with payroll periods and period modifiers. The team also defined wage types and valuation rules, configured US Payroll specific infotypes, and implemented garnishment and tax processing workflows specific to US payroll requirements.
Testing and quality management were formalized through authored test scripts, a Detailed Test Plan, and execution governance. The project administered HP Quality Center as the defect management and test documentation platform, led a test execution team for OM, PA and payroll scripts, logged defects in HPQC, and operated a defect resolution and retest workflow with weekly status reporting to the project management coordinator.
Operational governance emphasized formal signoffs on functional design and test artifacts, documented scope of services to estimate testing effort, and resource planning tied to scope. The SAP HCM implementation impacted HR administration, organizational design, payroll accounting and tax processing functions, and established role based processes and controls for ongoing Core HR operations.

| SAP | Legacy | SAP BusinessObjects | Analytics and BI | Analytics and BI | n/a | 2008 | 2009 |
In 2008, Butterball implemented SAP BusinessObjects. SAP BusinessObjects is deployed as an Analytics and BI platform to deliver enterprise reporting and business intelligence across Butterball's SAP landscape, supporting corporate reporting needs for a U.S. consumer packaged goods organization with approximately 8,000 employees.
The implementation centers on core Analytics and BI capabilities, including enterprise reporting, dashboarding, ad hoc query and BI content publishing. SAP BusinessObjects is positioned to consume and present data used for financial reporting, operational analytics and product lifecycle insights, complementing planning workflows tied to SAP BW with BPC.
Architecturally, SAP BusinessObjects is integrated into Butterball's broader SAP environment, coexisting with SAP ERP 6 ehp6 with PLM, SAP HANA, SLT replication and Enterprise Portals, and interfacing with SAP BW with BPC for consolidated reporting and planning data. The deployment is operated within the SAP Basis landscape, leveraging platform-level connectivity to on‑premise SAP databases and replication services to support near real time reporting scenarios.
Operational governance for SAP BusinessObjects fell under SAP Basis administration and architecture, with responsibilities described as care and feeding of SAP systems and forward planning for the IT organization from an SAP perspective. Governance focused on system maintenance, patching, operational support and coordinating BI delivery with finance, supply chain and PLM stakeholders.
