| SAP | Legacy | SAP ERP ECC 6.0 | ERP Financial | ERP | n/a | 2007 | 2007 |
In 2007, Caterpillar deployed SAP ERP ECC 6.0 in a program focused on ERP Financial consolidation and standardized financial processes. The SAP ERP ECC 6.0 implementation targeted corporate finance, regional finance centers, and shared service functions to centralize core accounting and financial close capabilities.
Configuration emphasized standard ERP Financial modules including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, asset accounting, controlling, and intercompany accounting, with period close and tax processing workflows configured to support multinational reporting requirements. Functional workstreams included master data governance, chart of accounts alignment, and configuration of financial ledgers and posting rules to enable consistent transaction processing.
The deployment was executed alongside multiple data centre consolidations and a coordinated migration of ECC, CRM and BW platforms, working with teams across EAME, US, Asia and Brazil, which shaped the infrastructure and cutover sequencing. Integration work focused on data flows between SAP ERP ECC 6.0 and CRM and BW landscapes to preserve customer and reporting data, and on establishing consolidated backup and recovery procedures within centralized data centres.
Governance was organized through a central program office with regional finance leads to manage configuration standards, cutover windows, and cross-region testing, and rollout sequencing emphasized staged regional deployments aligned to data centre consolidation milestones. The implementation linked SAP ERP ECC 6.0 to enterprise finance operations at Caterpillar, enabling standardized transactional finance and centralized financial operations under the ERP Financial program.

| Workday | Legacy | Workday Absence Management | Absence and Leave Management | HCM | n/a | 2018 | 2020 |
In 2018, Caterpillar implemented Workday Absence Management to centralize absence tracking and consolidate time and leave workflows under a single Absence and Leave Management platform. The deployment tied Workday Absence Management to Workday Time and Absence functionality, removing the separate functionality between payroll and the tracking of time and absence management and establishing a single source for leave administration used by HR and payroll teams.
The implementation included recruiting and reporting configuration work, with candidates and prospects loaded into Workday using Studio integrations during the Recruiting module rollout. HR dashboards were created for GQO Beta and Commercial Beta environments, providing standard reports BR-Headcount, BR-Turnover, BR-Staffing, BR-Open requisition, and BR-Hires, and custom reporting was developed in the cloud pay payroll system to support payroll and headcount reconciliation.
Multiple inbound and outbound integrations were developed, including inbound integrations with vendors like Fidelity and inbound CCB integrations for Fidelity loan feedback and deferrals, and an outbound CCB integration for demographic and contribution data with Fidelity. The project delivered a real-time Studio integration to load new hire information and to update contact information into Workday, and configured payslip integrations to load biweekly payslips from cloud pay into Workday.
Operational coverage centered on HR, payroll, and recruiting functions, with governance and workflow changes to support real-time new hire flows and vendor feedback loops. Workday Absence Management, as deployed, served as the system of record for absence and leave administration and interfaced with payroll and benefits vendor systems to streamline data exchange and reporting.

| Rockwell Automation | Legacy | Rockwell FactoryTalk InnovationSuite | Asset Performance Management | ERP Services and Operations | n/a | 2018 | 2018 |
In 2018, Caterpillar implemented Rockwell FactoryTalk InnovationSuite as an Asset Performance Management solution within its Advanced Component Manufacturing Division. The initial objective was to instrument critical constraint machines to capture PLC data and surface graphical analysis to manufacturing engineers, demonstrated during a four week proof of concept executed ahead of year end. The project team combined IT and OT personnel and obtained vendor support from Rockwell Automation and PTC. The effort targeted elimination of black box operations by exposing real time process data to engineering and operations staff.
The Rockwell FactoryTalk InnovationSuite deployment emphasized IIoT device connectivity, PLC data ingestion, real time visualization, and contextual analytics to validate whether processes met engineering specifications. Configuration work concentrated on time series capture, dashboards for manufacturing engineers, and rule based alerts to surface non value added time, consistent with Asset Performance Management functionality. The initial sprint prioritized quick wins to prove connectivity and deliver usable insights to production teams.
Integrations included direct PLC connectivity and efforts to plumb ERPs and master data for richer contextualization, informed by weeks of on site plant assessments. The implementation began with critical constraint machines and was then expanded to cover the remainder of the plant and additional domestic and international sites. ERP and master data context was used to align production traces with back office records and supply chain inputs to make analytics actionable.
Governance and process changes formalized collaboration between IT and OT through direct interaction and a single cross functional team responsible for strategy refinement and execution. Local business and finance stakeholders were engaged to quantify benefits and prioritize use cases, and plant level readiness assessments were used to sequence rollouts. This operating model created shared accountability for embedding analytics outputs into engineering and production workflows.
Outcomes recorded in the project included a reduction in overall process time of over 5 percent on day one and several hundred thousand dollars of cost avoidance by demonstrating that additional assets or shifts were not required. Early success drove expansion of the Asset Performance Management scope across multiple plants and established a data foundation to continuously identify non value added time and enable rapid process optimization using Rockwell FactoryTalk InnovationSuite.
