| SAP | Legacy | SAP ERP ECC 6.0 | ERP Financial | ERP | n/a | 2006 | 2007 |
In 2006, Central Michigan University implemented SAP ERP ECC 6.0 as its ERP Financial system to centralize accounting activities and financial reporting within Financial Services and Accounting Services. The deployment established SAP ERP ECC 6.0 as the institutional ledger and control layer for expense classification, general ledger maintenance, and month end close scheduling across campus departments.
Configuration work emphasized core general ledger structures and accounting controls, including a full General Ledger accounting list, General Ledger field descriptions, and specific GL accounts for recording equipment, furnishings, software, and fixed equipment purchases. The implementation formalized journal entry procedures through documented Journal Entries Guidelines, and it instituted Internal Orders as a method for tracking expenses in parallel with GL accounts. SAP document types and numbering conventions were implemented to standardize transactional posting and auditability.
Operational coverage included Financial Services, select CMU departments, and campus units that submit accounting entries and feeds, with a defined month end cadence where all entries and feeds are due by noon on the first working day of the next month. The SAP ERP ECC 6.0 deployment supported financial reporting workflows and classification of expenses used by Central Michigan University, aligning chart of accounts usage to institutional reporting needs.
Governance was embedded in procedures for completing the General Ledger Posting Document SA form and in published guidance for SAP document types, numbers, and posting rules. These governance artifacts provided a consistent control framework for departmental posting, month end cutoffs, and internal order usage, enabling predictable financial close processes across the university.

| SAP | Legacy | SAP HCM (HR) | Core HR | HCM | n/a | 2007 | 2008 |
In 2007, Central Michigan University implemented SAP HCM (HR) to support Core HR functions across campus. The deployment centralized personnel records and HR transaction processing for faculty and staff, creating a single HR system of record and aligning HR security with existing FI system credentials.
SAP HCM (HR) was configured to provide standard Core HR capabilities including personnel administration, organizational management, benefits administration, and time management, with payroll interface workflows typical for higher education payroll processes. Role based security and user provisioning were emphasized so that users with FI or HR system access could use SAP for HR activities and related training access without additional credentialing.
Student Lifecycle Campus Management training was delivered by Student Account Services and the University Billing Office, and the guidance specifies that SAP access in FI or HR systems is adequate for the SLCM hands on sessions. The SLCM training provided a student accounting overview showing where student account data is located and how to navigate those screens, with sessions held in the Bovee University Center room 119 or at on campus locations.
Governance for access required supervisors to notify staff to apply for a Standard SAP account, with account requests routed through the Help Desk at 989 774 3662. Training scheduling and operational coordination for the student account balance component of SLCM was managed by Dan Odykirk in Student Account Services, reachable at odyki1dr@cmich.edu or ext. 3159.

| SAP | Legacy | SAP BW (Business Warehouse) | Data Warehouse | Analytics and BI | n/a | 2008 | 2009 |
In 2008, Central Michigan University implemented SAP BW (Business Warehouse) as its Data Warehouse. The SAP BW implementation runs on DB2 on AIX following a migration off SQL Server on Windows completed last year to support the school’s SAP transactional system.
SAP BW (Business Warehouse) is configured to deliver consolidated reporting and data modeling for human resources and finance, with a planned extension to support a campus management system for student administration. The deployment centers on ETL-driven data models, dimensional reporting layers and centralized staging to align SAP transactional data with institutional analytics requirements.
Integrations link SAP BW to the university’s SAP HR and finance systems and are provisioned to ingest feeds from the forthcoming campus management system, enabling cross-domain reporting across student and administrative functions. Operational governance is managed by central IT in coordination with HR, finance and reporting teams, emphasizing controlled ETL schedules, central data modeling and access controls to support campus operational reporting.
