SAP SAP R/3 SAP ERP ECC 6.0 ERP Financial ERP n/a 2008 2009
In 2008, City of Phoenix implemented SAP ERP ECC 6.0 as its SAP ERP ECC 6.0 ERP Financial system, migrating from SAP R/3. This deployment consolidated municipal ERP Financial processing onto SAP ERP ECC 6.0 under the Information Technology Services organization, which supported an AIX/SAP estate of more than 80 servers at the time. The implementation centered on ERP Financial capabilities and transactional processing, with explicit operational ownership for City Bank Transactions carried out through the SAP environment. System administration and platform configuration included ongoing AIX support, AIX TL upgrades across the SAP estate with no issues reported, and the creation of new SAP application servers inside an enterprise virtualization infrastructure using Cisco UCS, VMWare, and RedHat. Integrations and infrastructure supporting SAP ERP ECC 6.0 included SAN storage, backup and recovery arrangements, and an enterprise monitoring stack that required SNMP remediation to enable SolarWinds Orion and Splunk monitoring. The ITS team completed a network migration moving AIX and SAP servers behind data center firewalls, implemented a temporary SAP disaster recovery solution, and completed training and transition activities for an Oracle Exalogic platform as part of broader infrastructure operations. Governance and operational changes accompanied the technical rollout, ITS drafted Service Level Agreements for the Exalogic platform and assumed responsibility for shared services consolidation that assessed shifting resources from up to 26 city departments into central IT. Training, oriented knowledge transfer, and delegated authority arrangements were used to stabilize operations, and positive feedback from business managers was recorded for the operational support model.
