SAP Legacy SAP SuccessFactors Compensation Compensation Management HCM n/a 2016 2016
In 2016, CMS Energy implemented SAP SuccessFactors Compensation as part of a broader SAP SuccessFactors rollout that included SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central, Succession Planning, Career Development, and Compensation modules. The initiative targeted core HR, talent management, and reward processes and supported HR and total rewards functions for CMS Energy's approximately 8504 employees within the utilities business. SAP SuccessFactors Compensation was configured within a Compensation Management framework, with Employee Central established as the system of record for worker attributes, job and grade data, and pay structures that feed compensation workflows. The Compensation module configuration focused on merit and bonus planning workflows, compensation planning worksheets, pay range and grade mapping, role based approval chains, and alignment of variable pay elements to talent outcomes generated by Succession Planning and Career Development. Governance centered on centralized configuration standards, security role setup and approval workflow controls to enforce Compensation Management policies, along with process changes to synchronize compensation cycles with talent calibration and development reviews. Project workstreams documented compensation element configuration, testing of calculation rules and approval routing, and operationalized the integration of compensation planning with succession and career development processes under the SAP SuccessFactors suite.

In 2013, CMS Energy implemented Hitachi Ventyx FocalPoint Suite for Asset Performance Management. The engagement centered on operationalizing asset and field work management capabilities to support maintenance planning, scheduling, dispatch, and workforce availability across utility operations. The implementation deployed Ventyx Service Suite components including Mobile Application MA, Dispatch DA, Work Force Availability WA and System Administration SA within the Hitachi Ventyx FocalPoint Suite. Configuration work spanned multiple environment tiers, Development, Quality and Production, with ABB engaged to build new environment configurations, and technical reporting delivered through R8 and R9 report execution using Oracle SQL Developer. Integrations and adjacent systems work included IBM Cognos TM1 based budgeting and forecasting activities, with explicit development of interfaces to SAP to load financial data and to surface budgeting inputs. Supporting technologies and tools cited in the program included SQL Server, MS SharePoint, Jira, HP Quality Center and MS Office driven Excel and web user interfaces that facilitated assumption input, reconciliation to source systems, and test data management for unit and string testing. Governance and operationalization tasks documented business requirements and to-be process flows, implemented security controls, produced technical maintenance documentation listing cubes and dimensions, and developed a Go-Live readiness plan. Run book and support practices included 24X7 on-call coverage for the Ventyx Service Suite, development of operational level metrics, monthly baseline and SLA assessment processes, and participation in month-end closing and statement of work activities with the implementation vendor.

MicroStrategy Legacy MicroStrategy ONE Analytics Analytics and BI Analytics and BI n/a 2011 2018
In 2011, CMS Energy deployed MicroStrategy ONE Analytics as its Analytics and BI platform to support reporting and analytical needs across its primary utility operations at Consumers Energy and its independent power generation activities under CMS Enterprises. The implementation targeted enterprise reporting and dashboarding using MicroStrategy ONE Analytics and aligned to the company’s operational focus on electric and natural gas service across Michigan. The implementation included hands on development of MicroStrategy objects and project artifacts, including attributes and facts, metrics, filters, advanced prompts, custom groups, consolidations, conditional transformation metrics, and level metrics. Reporting deliverables encompassed static reports, MicroStrategy Report Services documents, interactive web reports, scorecards, and dynamic dashboards with grids and graphs, plus KPI visualizations enabling OLAP style analysis directly from dashboards. The team used VLDB properties to tune generated SQL and to handle null and zero value calculations as part of metric computation. The technical architecture comprised MicroStrategy Desktop 8.1 for development, MicroStrategy Intelligence Server 8.1 as the analytics engine, MicroStrategy Web 8.1 for consumption, and MicroStrategy Narrowcast Server 8.1 for document distribution. Source and supporting data structures included Metadata and Statistic tables created on a SQL Server database, plus Teradata for enterprise data storage, with UNIX as part of the operating environment. Reports were tested via user accounts created in MicroStrategy Desktop and delivered to end users through Narrowcast Server generated documents. Governance and operational processes were formalized with Report Specification documents that were reviewed and signed off, and an explicit deployment workflow that used MicroStrategy Object Manager to move objects from development to test and then to production. Troubleshooting and runbook activities referenced MicroStrategy Knowledge Base resources, and the team performed Web report optimization and SQL refinement through VLDB property adjustments to support stable production reporting.
