Operational coverage included core HR, benefits administration, and payroll functions across Davita's United States workforce, and the Workday absence and leave configuration was expanded in January 2016 to onboard 15,000 employees acquired into the Workday HCM, Benefits, Leave, and PTO environment. In 2018, Davita implemented Salesforce Field Service (ex ClickSoftware) as its Field Service Management platform to manage facility assignments, service territories, and the service appointment lifecycle. The deployment centered on Field Service Lightning and included configuration of service territories as functional areas and assignment of service resources to meet clinical and operational scheduling needs.
The implementation delivered a mix of declarative FSL configurations and custom development, including Visualforce pages built with standard, custom, and extension controllers to meet unique FA page requirements. Development work included Apex triggers, Apex classes, and test methods to capture and update Facility assignments, primary roles and profiles, and to create user territories and sharing records, while SOQL and SOSL queries were written with governor limit considerations.
The project incorporated scheduling capabilities such as FSL scheduling, work rules, and service objectives, and modeled operational constructs including Maintenance Plans based on Service Resource, Service Territory, and Timeslot objects. Functional components created in Salesforce Field Service (ex ClickSoftware) included treatment plans, shifts, and calendar views on the FA page, implemented through Lightning web components, aura components, and supporting HTML and JS scripts, and a reusable lightning component framework was developed for UI consistency.
Governance followed agile rituals, with daily standup meetings and scrum practices driving iterative delivery and small user group rollouts into Lightning Experience. Operational coverage focused on field operations and facility-level service teams, and the program emphasized FSL status transition management and scheduling orchestration to align technical configuration with service workflows.
