| Microsoft | SAP R/3 | Microsoft Dynamics AX | ERP Financial | ERP | n/a | 2009 | 2009 |
In 2009, Direct Wines implemented Microsoft Dynamics AX to support core ERP Financial operations, executing a migration from SAP R/3 to Microsoft Dynamics AX as the company’s primary finance and order management platform. The implementation targeted finance, customer service, and operations functions and established Microsoft Dynamics AX as the transactional backbone for billing, accounts receivable, and order-to-cash workflows.
Implementation work included ongoing ERP functionality enhancements driven with an offshore development team, with business requirements documents and functional design documents created to formalize scope. Microsoft Dynamics AX was configured to handle order management and customer account processes, and test scripts were developed and managed through end user testing and formal release sign offs to control changes and defects.
The Microsoft Dynamics AX deployment integrated with a bespoke wine ordering and management front end built on the ATG E-Commerce platform to support customer service representative workflows, and it operated alongside multiple shipping vendor relationships for delivery orchestration. Operational coverage included the call center back office team, a delivery management team based in Norwalk Connecticut, and customer service operations that used AX data for fulfillment and billing decisions.
Governance and process changes were enforced through BRDs, FDDs, structured testing, change request tracking, and release approvals, and a delivery management team was established to manage operational workflows. The program included a stop order proceeds process that was explicitly credited with producing operational savings of $500K plus annually, and the implementation emphasized contractual service level management with shipping vendors to protect fulfillment performance.

In 2016 Direct Wines implemented Oracle Endeca as part of its Analytics and BI stack to enhance eCommerce search and product discovery across its global web estate. Oracle Endeca was deployed to support guided search, faceted navigation and relevance tuning to improve catalog browsing and merchandising for consumer packaged goods storefronts.
The implementation configured Oracle Endeca to surface product content and structured navigation, using standard Endeca capabilities for relevance management, query pipelines and index orchestration. Oracle Endeca was integrated with the companys ATG eCommerce front end and the content management layers to present curated product lists, and it was aligned with Adobe Site Catalyst, Google Analytics and Clicktale for analytics instrumentation. Integrations named in the environment included Bazaarvoice for user generated content, Oracle Live Help for assisted commerce, Cheetamail for eCRM, and Microsoft Dynamics AX as the backend product and supplier data source.
Deployment covered a multi site, international footprint with Direct Wines operating numerous country sites and managing over a dozen global websites from UK, USA, Germany and Hong Kong deployments. The scope included the web, merchandising and digital marketing functions, and it addressed product data flows from suppliers into Microsoft Dynamics AX, enabling catalog updates to feed Endeca indexed content for storefront presentation. The application relationship is Direct Wines Oracle Endeca Analytics and BI for eCommerce search, merchandising and analytics driven customer experience.
Governance and operationalization followed Agile project management practices, with project planning, sprint management and release coordination managed through Jira, Condep and structured QA cycles that included functionality, compatibility, accessibility and performance testing. The program also incorporated release and cache management via Akamai and cache buster strategies, responsive design alignment for mobile and tablet, and cross functional stakeholder liaison between web, marketing and supply chain teams to maintain content, analytics tagging and ongoing tuning of Oracle Endeca search behavior.

In 2018, Direct Wines implemented Microsoft 365. Microsoft 365 is used on their website and functions as the company's Collaboration platform.
Deployment follows a cloud first, tenant level Microsoft 365 architecture appropriate for a roughly 100 employee organization. Functional modules implemented include Exchange Online for email and calendaring, Microsoft Teams for chat and meetings, SharePoint for intranet and content publishing, and OneDrive for personal file storage. Identity and access are governed through Azure Active Directory and tenant level administrative controls.
Operational scope covers core business functions such as marketing, sales, and customer service, providing unified messaging, document collaboration, and intranet publishing. Use on the public website indicates that SharePoint or other Microsoft 365 content is surfaced for customer facing pages and that content publishing workflows are integrated with internal collaboration. Governance is organized around centralized tenant administration, role based access controls, and site level permissions to manage content visibility and external exposure.
