SAP Legacy SAP Field Service Management Field Service Management ERP Services and Operations n/a 2021 2021
In 2021, Energie 360 implemented SAP Field Service Management to digitize and centralize key network operations in its Swiss service area. The deployment targeted three high-frequency processes, changing meters, equipment inspections, and maintenance of pressure reduction and measuring stations on a 14 year inspection cycle, totaling roughly 7,000 process runs per year. This implementation links the company, SAP Field Service Management, Field Service Management and the network and metering point operations business functions into a single operational workflow. The SAP Field Service Management implementation emphasized planning, order orchestration, mobile technician execution, and automated posting for routine cases. Configuration included orchestration of order dependencies and rules that the planning team previously managed manually, and automation to handle about 70 percent of process runs as standard cases. Technicians receive digital orders and execution forms on a single device, replacing paper handoffs and enabling in-field capture of execution data. Technically the project connected SAP Field Service Management with the SAP Utilities solution SAP IS-U to synchronize work orders and master data in a technically demanding integration. Ongoing master data adjustment reports were introduced to improve data quality between SAP IS-U and SAP Field Service Management. Operational coverage spans the network department and metering point operations across Energie 360 operations in Switzerland, with planning constrained by legally stipulated deadlines that are now enforced by the FSM planning engine. Governance and rollout followed a process-first approach, with Energie 360 and OPUSm conducting a detailed inventory, target process design and specification development before technical integration. The project team recommended an iterative, agile delivery cadence rather than a strict waterfall approach, to reduce rework between conception and implementation. Back office workflows were restructured to remove manual data transcription tasks, shifting staff toward higher value activities and centralized exception handling. Outcomes reported by Energie 360 are explicit improvements in planning simplicity, elimination of common sources of error, reduced pre and post processing effort, improved data quality, and operational resilience during staff shortages. The system now presents all order related information to any substituting technician at a glance, and back office workload for routine posting has been significantly reduced, freeing capacity for future oriented initiatives.
