| SAP | SAP ERP ECC 6.0 | SAP S/4 HANA | ERP Financial | ERP | n/a | 2019 | 2020 |
In 2019, Ericsson United States implemented SAP S/4 HANA as its ERP Financial platform, replacing SAP ERP ECC 6.0 for the targeted business unit. HCL Technologies Limited supported the engagement beginning June 2019 with an implementation team of two, focusing on the Media Solutions organization that was rebranded as MediaKind following divestiture.
The implementation centered on SAP HCM modules OM, PA, and PT, and SAP CATS for time capture and project time entry. Project work included configuring the HR minimaster for CATS time entry, creating time profiles for project time entry, establishing the enterprise structure and organizational structure, and configuring CATS profiles for employees and contractors. The team maintained Infogroups and personnel actions to operationalize HR minimaster data, and produced an HCM BPD to align HR and professional services processes.
Integration work was scoped around cloud integration patterns, the engagement referencing Cloud Integration for SAP R/3 and S4 HANA and using SAP Cloud Platform Integration as the middleware. A functional specification was developed for a bi-directional interface between Ceridian DayForce and the SAP S/4 HANA system using CPI, positioning Ceridian DayForce as the external workforce/time system integrated into SAP S/4 HANA.
Operational governance emphasized workshop-driven requirements gathering with HR and professional services teams, and formalization of the HCM business process document. Configuration and master data controls were implemented through personnel actions and Infogroups to support ongoing HR operations for employees and contractors, and the project artifacts reflect a configuration-first rollout approach for time capture and HR master data management.

In 2014, Ericsson USA deployed Vemo Workforce Planning as a phased global program to formalize Strategic and Tactical Workforce Planning activities. Vemo Workforce Planning, categorized as Workforce Planning, was configured to support planning and analytics for a 150,000 headcount across as many as 20 business units, delivering executive reporting and projections to Corporate HR, Global HR Executive Leadership, the Global Transformation Office, and the Board of Directors.
The implementation centralized core Workforce Planning capabilities including strategic and tactical plan versus actual analysis, Cost of Workforce reporting, Critical Competence Resource Gap identification, and KPI dashboards. The team built a Query Builder super-report library inside Vemo Workforce Planning to enable user self-service reporting, created custom user guides, and led user training and user acceptance testing for incremental functionality updates.
Operational integrations included Tableau for deeper analytics and visualization of workforce metrics, and coordination with the Global Shared Services Center to align tools, processes, and reports for operational support. Ericsson maintained a direct vendor interface with Vemo to triage user-interface issues, recommend product enhancements, and manage UAT cycles, ensuring timely resolution of defects and evolving business requirements.
Governance and rollout were executed in phases according to a Strategic and Tactical Workforce Planning roadmap, with project management partnering with function heads and globally distributed SMEs. The program produced weekly executive briefs of all job requisitions for CHRO and CFO final review, maintained strict overnight turnaround requirements, prioritized the GSSC support workload, and included coaching of support team members to sustain the practice.
