In 2020, FedEx implemented Oracle Cloud ERP as a central element of a broader Oracle Cloud deployment that also included Oracle Cloud EPM, Oracle Cloud SCM, and Oracle Analytics. The Oracle Cloud ERP implementation, identified within the ERP Financial category, was positioned to modernize finance and supply chain operations and to provide a common data format across the suite of Oracle applications.
The technical architecture combined Oracle Cloud ERP with Oracle Analytics Cloud, OCI Functions, and Autonomous Database to support near real time analytics and scalable transaction processing. FedEx also instrumented Oracle Digital Assistant and OCI Integration Services to automate workflows and create touchless handoffs, while using Oracle Cloud Infrastructure to host application instances and accelerate code deployment cycles.
Operational governance was anchored by a permanent Digital Innovation Center of Excellence called DICE, with a hub at FedEx headquarters and regional centers in Asia and Europe, guiding a phased rollout that began in Europe, then moved to Asia and North America. The program standardized more than 220 operations using over 40 Oracle Cloud applications, deployed more than 25 digital assistants, and put Oracle Analytics Cloud into the hands of more than 3,000 employees for data driven decision making.
FedEx shifted to virtual deployment models for Oracle Cloud ERP and related applications, standing up nine new local instances during the COVID-19 crisis without schedule interruptions, and reducing manual effort while increasing code deployment velocity. The combined Oracle Cloud ERP and platform implementation enabled faster operational responsiveness, with FedEx reporting a 2X faster ability to respond to business changes and a 2X faster speed to market.

In 2016, FedEx implemented UKG Workforce Central Absence Manager, the application formerly known as Kronos Workforce Absence Manager, to standardize Absence and Leave Management across its HR systems. The implementation was executed as part of a Kronos Workforce Management Suite design and systems analysis program led by internal subject matter experts and configuration leads.
Configuration and module work included Accruals, Attendance, Timekeeping, Attestation, TOR, Security, Navigators, Person Import Logic, Workforce Integration Manager WIM, and Scheduling/Forecasting, with UKG Workforce Central Absence Manager configured to support each functional area. Workstreams covered imports and interfaces, solution break fix and enhancements, and detailed impact analysis and documentation tied to each module and workflow.
Integrations were implemented with enterprise HR systems, explicitly using Person Import Logic and Workforce Integration Manager to surface HR master data from PeopleSoft where the technical refresh role governed HR systems and strategy. Ownership included upgrade activities from version 6.2 on premise to 8.0.12 cloud, aligning the Absence and Leave Management application with a cloud operational model.
Governance and rollout followed a staged implementation, with numerous Kronos training sessions and system demos led by the configuration lead and SME, and formal change control around upgrades and enhancements documented via impact analysis. The program positioned HRIS ownership for Benefits and Employee Relations, embedding attestation, security, timekeeping, and scheduling workflows into FedEx operational processes.

In 2017, FedEx implemented AppWorx Workload Automation as a Business Process Management platform to centralize workload scheduling and batch orchestration across regulatory and back office processes. The deployment was positioned to standardize automated job control for Regulatory Guidance, Regulatory Admin, and customs brokerage workflows, with operational relevance to FedEx Logistics teams based in Memphis, TN.
The AppWorx Workload Automation implementation focused on core workload automation capabilities, including enterprise job scheduling, calendar and SLA driven execution, event triggered orchestration, and centralized logging and audit trails. Configuration emphasized modular job families for recurring regulatory reports, ad hoc data extracts, and end of day batch processing, enabling predictable sequencing and error handling for complex multi-step processes.
Operational coverage aligned with existing reporting and document workflows used by Regulatory teams, including batch production of SAS based reports, consolidated CRM and Access report runs, and scheduled publication tasks for Regulatory SharePoint content such as RIGHT documents and REG News. The implementation framed these endpoints as consumable job targets under a single scheduler, while preserving human approval gates where Legal, Brand, and Express GTS review was required.
Governance and runbook changes accompanied the rollout, with job ownership assigned to Regulatory Admin and Regulatory Guidance stakeholders, standardized naming and retention policies for job definitions, and escalation workflows for failed runs. The AppWorx deployment supported ongoing automation initiatives that had already realized manual effort reductions in regulatory reporting processes, while providing auditability and centralized operational control for regulatory and customs brokerage functions.
