Microsoft Legacy Microsoft Power BI Analytics and BI Analytics and BI n/a 2016 2018
In 2016, JGC America, Inc implemented Microsoft Power BI for Analytics and BI use across its enterprise content management and reporting stack. The deployment was coordinated with corporate management to extend Office 365 and SharePoint Online as the content platform and to organize migrated content into SharePoint 2016 online. Microsoft Power BI was used to surface operational metrics and dashboards to business stakeholders. Power BI reports and dashboards were formatted and published to SharePoint site pages for authorized users, providing embedded visualization within the intranet experience. PowerShell commands were used to extract key metrics and identify issues and errors, supporting automated data pulls and diagnostics. AvePoint DocAve was utilized for controlled movement of content between development and production site collections. The implementation also included creating and defining Nintex forms and workflows, later converted to InfoPath and SharePoint Designer workflows to automate business processes. Integrations purposefully tied Microsoft Power BI to Office 365, SharePoint Online and SharePoint 2016 online, and extended to Sage ERP for operational data support and troubleshooting. The environment supported Office 2016 client tooling and Skype for Business rollout and training to end users, enabling collaboration around BI content. Power BI visualizations were explicitly displayed on SharePoint pages to authorized audiences, reinforcing a single access layer for reports. Operational scope covered multiple operational business areas with business analysis, requirements gathering and custom solution delivery across departments, while providing Tier 3 support to all users. Governance activities included specifying migration paths for content outside of SharePoint into Office 365, executing site branding and rebranding, and using AvePoint tools to control content movement. Adoption efforts were driven by liaison with the user community through open communication and training, and workload was managed with minimal supervision. The implementation positioned Microsoft Power BI as the primary Analytics and BI reporting layer integrated with Office 365 and SharePoint, supporting reporting, diagnostics and automated workflows. Ongoing administration encompassed Office 365 tenant operations, report formatting, site design and web part interactivity.
