In 2020 Loyola University Medical Center implemented Sterling Background Check to support BackGround Screening within its HR onboarding workflow. The Sterling Background Check implementation was positioned to support Talent Acquisition and new hire onboarding activities at the Maywood, IL campus, enabling initiation and management of criminal and education screening tasks alongside existing screening processes.
Sterling Background Check was configured to handle core background screening workflows including criminal record checks, education verification, primary source verification for licenses and certifications, and adjudication support for candidate disclosures. Operational use included the processing of employee statements for background hits, routing verification items to senior leadership, and maintaining electronic employee files to meet IDPH and The Joint Commission documentation requirements.
The screening workflow operated alongside HireRight and Equifax tools, with coordinators initiating checks via HireRight and Sterling systems and using Equifax for I9 scheduling, completion and verification. New hire demographic and payroll details were entered into Workday as part of the onboarding sequence, with manual and procedural handoffs coordinating information between Sterling Background Check, Equifax, HireRight, and Workday.
Governance and operational controls centered on the HR Talent Acquisition Coordinator role, which coordinated status updates with HR leaders, hiring managers and senior leadership, obtained primary source verifications, and ensured electronic files met regulatory standards.
