In 2021, MSD Ireland implemented SAP S/4 HANA as its primary ERP Financial application to centralize core finance operations for the Ireland organization. The deployment targeted the finance function across MSD Ireland, supporting a company of approximately 3,600 employees in the life sciences sector and consolidating transactional finance into a single SAP S/4 HANA instance.
The SAP S/4 HANA implementation included configuration of core financial modules typical of ERP Financial solutions, including General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Asset Accounting, Financial Close and Controlling, together with master data modeling for charts of accounts and fiscal period control. The project focused on ledger setup, accounting principle alignment, statutory tax configurations and automated period end workflows to support recurring financial processes.
Architecturally the implementation positioned SAP S/4 HANA as the centralized finance ledger and transactional system of record, enabling real time posting and a simplified data model for downstream reporting. The initiative encompassed integration points with operational sub ledgers and bank interfaces to support payment processing and cash management, and produced standardized financial extracts for statutory and management reporting across the Ireland entity.
Governance and rollout were driven by an SAP S4hana Implementation Lead beginning in June 2021, coordinating configuration, testing and user acceptance across finance, tax and IT stakeholders during a concentrated engagement period. The program established master data governance and finance process standardization to align transactional controls and close routines under the SAP S/4 HANA ERP Financial implementation.

| The Access Group | Legacy | Access PeopleXD (formerly CoreHR) | Core HR | HCM | n/a | 2020 | 2020 |
In 2020, MSD Ireland implemented Access PeopleXD, formerly CoreHR, as its Core HR system from The Access Group. The deployment targeted HR and payroll administration for approximately 3,600 employees across Ireland, covering multiple payroll groupings for manufacturing, support, and sales personnel with both weekly and monthly pay frequencies.
The Access PeopleXD implementation focused on core HRIS capabilities, including centralized employee master data, benefits administration, payroll interface configuration, and employee self-service portal provisioning. Configuration work emphasized handling multiple pay frequencies and high-volume payroll workflows, with modular form and approval workflows to support payroll review and sign-off.
Integrations were established with locally managed time and attendance systems and with MSD's global ERP HR system to channel payroll inputs and workforce data into Access PeopleXD. The payroll function maintained operational links with several external service providers that support All-Ireland compensation and benefit programs, ensuring benefits feeds and payroll calculations remained synchronized with HR records.
Operational governance preserved a payroll manager led structure, with the Ireland payroll team performing pre-sign-off reviews and acting as the escalation point for payroll queries. Rollout activities included policy and procedure development as part of annual projects, and the implementation emphasized consistent payroll processes across the market and compliance with Irish payroll legislation.

In 2010, MSD Ireland implemented SAP BusinessObjects to centralize Analytics and BI for Employee Expense Management across the EMEA shared services footprint. The deployment supported the EMEA Procure-to-Pay shared services center in Dublin and was scoped to stabilize post SAP EEM GO LIVE operations for Spain, Germany, Netherlands, Ireland, UK, Italy, France and additional unplanned sites under PtP team leadership.
SAP BusinessObjects was configured to deliver enterprise reporting, dashboards and ad hoc analysis, and was the primary platform used to design and implement BI reports and metrics that supported Service Delivery and decision-making processes. Implemented functional capabilities included operational level 1, 2 and 3 metrics, prescriptive and predictive analytics workflows, and service desk reporting to sustain Helpdesk Support and SLA management.
Integrations were explicitly built against SAP transactional sources, Tibco Spotfire visual analytics outputs and Excel and Access data extracts to consolidate expense and service metrics into SAP BusinessObjects. The operational architecture linked SAP BusinessObjects with SAP Employee Expense Management data to enable reconciliations, audit trails and cross-system reporting consumed by Procure-to-Pay, finance and shared services teams across the EMEA region.
Governance and process workstreams incorporated Kaizen and Six Sigma methodologies, formal change management for rollout and stabilization, development of monthly and quarterly reporting for EMEA leadership and sites, and management of the EEM Audit System to meet SLAs. The work established a structured service delivery reporting framework and achieved audit and SOX compliance with no critical points reported.
