| SAP | Legacy | SAP ERP ECC 6.0 | ERP Financial | ERP Financial Management | n/a | 2011 | 2012 |
In 2011, Metro implemented SAP ERP ECC 6.0 as its core ERP Financial application. The deployment centralized financial accounting and controlling capabilities across corporate finance and store-level reporting, aligning SAP ERP ECC 6.0 with Metro's retail operational needs. The environment was instrumented to support high-volume inventory and transaction tasks common to a national grocery retailer.
Configuration emphasized SAP Financial Accounting and Controlling modules, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and financial reporting, with tailored margin matching and transaction reconciliation workflows to support inventory and pricing integrity. Margin matching processes referenced in operational notes were operationalized through SAP data structures and exported datasets for advanced analysis. Finance and analytics teams routinely used Excel techniques such as VLOOKUP and array formulas to structure, manipulate, and validate large extracts for reporting and audit purposes.
SAP ERP ECC 6.0 was integrated with IBM iSeries AS400 systems to synchronize store transactions and inventory records, supporting interactions with over 100 retail locations. Integration enabled structured data exchange and reconciliation between store systems and central finance, while operational issue resolution relied on coordinated channels including email and conference calls. The technical architecture emphasized interoperability between SAP and store-level platforms to maintain transactional accuracy and support daily settlement workflows.
Governance centered on finance and accounting ownership of master data, reconciliation workflows, and escalation procedures, with cross-functional processes established to address high-priority operational bottlenecks. The implementation contributed to streamlined financial and operational processes that enhanced operational efficiency and business integrity, and cross-functional response protocols supported business continuity during events such as the LCBO strike. Ongoing operations combined SAP ERP ECC 6.0, IBM iSeries connectivity, and spreadsheet-driven analysis to sustain financial control and margin matching governance.

| SAP | Legacy | SAP HCM (HR) | Core HR | HCM | n/a | 2014 | 2015 |
In 2014 Metro implemented SAP HCM (HR) across its franchised grocery stores in Quebec and initiated configuration and rollout activities extending into Ontario. The deployment positioned SAP HCM (HR) as the Core HR system supporting centralized HR administration for store-level and corporate HR teams.
Configuration work emphasized Time, Payroll, Personnel Administration and Remuneration. Specific configuration tasks included SAP HR time setup of banks, schedules, calendars and time indicators, and SAP HR compensation configuration for pay scales, salary progression and salary increases. The project included development workshops, unit testing and user training led by internal SAP HR and Kronos Timekeeper configuration specialists.
Integrations were implemented with Kronos Timekeeping for time capture and accruals across more than 400 franchised stores, and with Concur for expense flows into the SAP HR module. The Kronos Timekeeping work covered complex conditions spanning more than 200 collective agreements, with configuration, unit and integrated tests and post-project support. User training and go-live support addressed both store-level managers and HR payroll teams.
Program governance incorporated annual SAP support pack implementations with recurring unit and integrated testing and collective agreement analysis to maintain payroll and timekeeping compliance. Operational coverage included HR, payroll and store operations across Quebec and Ontario, with ongoing post-project support and configuration stewardship.

In 2013, Metro centralized claims and risk reporting with ClearRisk as its Insurance Claims Management solution across Canadian retail operations. ClearRisk was provisioned to deliver claims management and reporting modules and risk analytics to consolidate incident intake, case tracking, and standardized reporting.
The deployment established a single instance servicing store networks and corporate risk teams across Canada, configuring functional modules for claims management, structured reporting, and risk analytics to support claims intake, adjudication workflows, and aggregated risk dashboards. Implementation emphasized centralized data capture, standardized reporting formats, and incident lifecycle management to align loss prevention and claims administration processes.
Governance changes created centralized reporting ownership with standardized workflows for case escalation and audit trails to improve accountability across departments. Metro reported over $1,000,000 in potential new claims avoided and a dramatic reduction in reporting time following the ClearRisk Insurance Claims Management deployment.
