In 2020 Modoc Nation implemented Intuit QuickBooks Online as an ERP Financial solution with Fourlane serving as the implementation partner, addressing the tribe’s need for improved grant accounting, profit and expense review, and Council reporting. The engagement targeted the finance function at Modoc Nation and was driven by requirements for audit compatibility and sustainable operating procedures, including staff training and ongoing support. Fourlane configured Intuit QuickBooks Online for grant tracking, profit and expense review, and audit-ready bookkeeping, while also structuring chart of accounts and reporting workflows to support consistent financial statements and grant budgets. The work included creation of a policy and procedure framework aligned with generally accepted accounting principles and the tribe’s specific reporting needs, enabling the finance team to maintain consistent records within the Intuit QuickBooks Online environment. Operationally the rollout focused on the finance team and tribal leadership reporting, with Fourlane providing role-based training and continuing support to embed new processes. As a result Modoc Nation finance staff gained confidence maintaining financial records, meeting grant budget and audit goals, and producing reports that tribal leadership can use for long-term financial planning, and the improvements allowed for grant budget tracking and internal audit of expenses at a much higher level and in about half of the staff time.
