| SAP | SAP R/3 | SAP ERP ECC 6.0 | ERP Financial | ERP | n/a | 2003 | 2003 |
In 2003, Morinaga & Company implemented SAP ERP ECC 6.0 as its core accounting platform. The SAP ERP ECC 6.0 deployment supported the company's ERP Financial needs and replaced SAP R/3, establishing a centralized financial and transactional backbone for accounting and related business processes.
The implementation extended beyond finance to integrate inventory, production, and sales management workflows as Morinaga moved mainframe applications into an open environment through 2009. Configuration emphasized standard ERP Financial capabilities for end of month cost accounting, transaction processing, and data consolidation, enabling automated nightly batch runs and centralized master data management across manufacturing and distribution functions.
In January 2020 Morinaga migrated the SAP ERP ECC 6.0 environment to Amazon Web Services, moving approximately 100 servers in a two phase lift and shift approach, and retaining the existing application and database schema during the migration. The project separated non critical systems into a Phase 1 migration from June to October 2018, followed by Phase 2 from April 2019 to January 2020, with the DR site becoming operational in March 2020, and included use of AWS Snowball to transfer an on premise file server holding more than 60TB of historical data.
Operational scope on AWS consolidated almost all core systems including the SAP ERP core and supporting systems, and enabled full system duplication for disaster recovery across regions, replacing prior selective DR coverage. After the migration Morinaga reported SAP ERP processing time reductions for nightly cost accounting from 4.7 hours to 1.4 hours, and projects infrastructure maintenance and operations cost optimization of a few hundred million Japanese Yen over the next five years. Morinaga is also evaluating shifting its database to Amazon RDS and planning a future migration path to SAP S/4HANA ahead of end of maintenance support in 2027.

| SAP | Legacy | SAP HCM (HR) | Core HR | HCM | n/a | 2003 | 2003 |
In 2003, Morinaga & Company implemented SAP HCM (HR) as its Core HR system. By outsourcing operations to a partner, Morinaga shifted operational responsibility and concentrated on migrating the majority of its systems to AWS, enabling reduction of its internal data center footprint.
The SAP HCM (HR) implementation provided core HR capabilities including employee master data management, payroll orchestration, time management, and organizational management, aligned with standard Core HR functional workflows supporting HR and payroll teams. Implementation scope centered on centralizing HR processing and personnel administration for Morinaga & Company's Japan operations and its workforce of approximately 3,170 employees.
Operational architecture moved toward a cloud resilience model, where the disaster recovery solution on AWS enabled duplication of all systems, whereas previously only the major system directly connected to production and logistics was duplicated due to cost. Governance and runbook responsibilities shifted toward the outsourced operations partner, while internal HR retained policy and functional oversight. As noted by Mr. Sugita, being able to respond with DR for all systems was a benefit of AWS, and the DR environment did not need to be used when the servers were not in use.
