In 2020 Murdoch University implemented Workday Absence Management as part of its broader Workday HCM program. The deployment targeted the Absence and Leave Management category and focused on centralizing absence processing, leave entitlement configuration, and onboarding-related absence workflows across HR and payroll functions.
Configuration and functional design work was led by a Functional SME for Absence Management and Onboarding who defined business requirements, managed configuration of absence business processes, and developed multiple custom Workday Reports. The team completed extensive scenario-based user acceptance testing and raised time critical enhancement requests to align business processes with the university Enterprise Agreement. Quick Reference Guides were developed and Knowledge Transfer sessions were delivered to Systems and Payroll teams to prepare operational owners for steady state.
The implementation included integrations with Ascender Pay for absence interfacing, and addressed work shifts and casual academic contract processing within Workday HCM. Preparations encompassed ServiceNow catalogue readiness for Workday HCM intake, supervisory organisation concept design and management, and consultation with senior stakeholders to validate organizational hierarchy and reporting structures.
Governance work emphasized compliance, with enhancements identified and prioritized through a compliance lens to ensure leave entitlements matched industrial agreements. Business process configuration changes were tracked and tested during UAT to ensure entitlements and approval flows behaved as required.
