In 2012, The Napa Valley Wine Train deployed Block Square POS as its Point Of Sale solution. The implementation was developed and administered by an internal IT specialist who built a custom Square POS configuration for daily use by 30+ employees across multiple properties, addressing backend reporting and inventory needs.
Block Square POS was configured to support transaction processing, terminal provisioning, inventory tracking and reporting workflows typical of Point Of Sale systems. The rollout included endpoint provisioning, imaging and ongoing client and server administration within an environment supporting 60+ client devices and a broader 180+ user base across six properties, with IT responsibilities covering hardware repair and software maintenance.
The POS deployment leveraged the property network infrastructure including Ubiquiti hardware and UniFi management for power over ethernet and network segmentation of POS terminals. Operational coverage included reservations, tasting room and event checkout workflows across multiple Napa Valley sites, with seven day a week desk side and remote support patterns maintained by the IT team.
Governance incorporated Active Directory user lifecycle management, group policy controls for application and data access, and documented procedures to ensure PCI DSS compliance for card present transactions processed by Block Square POS. Ongoing administration focused on terminal security, access controls, and routine maintenance of the Point Of Sale environment.
