SAP Legacy SAP S/4 HANA ERP Financial ERP n/a 2017 2018
In 2017, the Office of the Carinthian Provincial Government implemented SAP S/4 HANA as its ERP Financial platform to centralize and modernize public finance processing. The program was driven by a mandate to become a top provider of digital financial services for citizens and enterprises, and a core objective was to digitalize all public sector documents for rapid access. The SAP S/4 HANA deployment focused on core financial management functionality, including general ledger processing, accounts payable and receivable workflows, and electronic document handling to support records retention and auditability. SAP S/4 HANA was configured to enable document-centric financial workflows and automation, increasing operational throughput and reducing manual transaction handling. Implementation spanned provincial finance and administrative departments, addressing the end to end document lifecycle for citizen and enterprise transactions, and included integration into the government’s electronic document repository and internal service channels to enable rapid retrieval. The project incorporated process redesign to centralize document intake, indexing, and retrieval, aligning operational roles for digital records management across departments. With assistance from SAP MaxAttention services, the Office of the Carinthian Provincial Government became the first Austrian public sector organization to digitalize at this scale, and achieved a reported 600% increase in document throughput. Governance changes emphasized standardized digital records procedures and centralized operational controls to support ongoing citizen facing financial services and compliance.
