In 2018 Petronas implemented SAP S/4 HANA as its ERP Financial platform, migrating from SAP ERP ECC 6.0 to establish a modern financial and procurement backbone. The initiative included a PETRONAS Group Procurement master data cleansing program executed across SAP ERP ECC 6.0 and SAP S/4 HANA, focused on Vendor Master, Material Master and Service Master to meet ISO8000 standard.
The implementation centered on master data domain configuration and governance within SAP S/4 HANA, applying standardization and validation rules for vendor, material and service records. Workstreams included data profiling, deduplication, attribute harmonization and enrichment consistent with master data management and ERP Financial recordkeeping practices, and the SAP S/4 HANA environment was used to house the cleansed authoritative records.
Operational coverage targeted the Group Procurement function, aligning procurement master data to support downstream financial processes and analytics. Governance changes established data stewardship and ISO8000-aligned metadata standards to sustain quality, and the cleansing program was designed to put GP in a better position for future data analytics and operations.

The implementation covered multiple SuccessFactors modules, including Employee Central EC, Learning Management System LMS, Employee Profile EP, Performance and Goals Management PMGM, Recruiting Management RCM, and Onboarding ONB. Configuration work focused on the employee data model, organizational and position management, business rules, and role based security to support core HR transactions and talent lifecycle processes.
The program included a data migration from SAP HCM (HR) into SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central and established interfaces between Employee Central and downstream HR processing such as payroll and time management, while leveraging native SuccessFactors module connectivity for recruiting, onboarding, learning, and performance workflows. The architecture positioned Employee Central as the system of record for core HR attributes, with integrated talent management capabilities feeding operational HR processes.
Governance changes emphasized centralized HR data ownership, standardized approval workflows, and HR process harmonization across talent, payroll, and learning domains. Rollout and adoption activities were organized around module aligned process owners within HR to operationalize employee lifecycle management on the SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central Core HR platform.

The deployment followed a successful proof of concept that validated AI infused AVEVA Predictive Analytics for early detection of equipment problems and forewarning of impending equipment failure.
The implementation centered on AVEVA Wonderware with integrated AVEVA Predictive Analytics models for equipment condition monitoring and predictive maintenance, aligning with standard Asset Performance Management workflows such as anomaly detection, alarm correlation, and maintenance work order triggering. Configurations emphasized equipment performance optimization and automated analytics scoring to enable engineering teams to prioritize inspections and corrective actions.
The solution was provisioned in PETRONAS corporate cloud, running on Microsoft Azure, and piloted across four upstream platforms and two downstream plants, covering upstream production sites and downstream processing facilities. Operational users included the engineering division and plant operators who consumed predictive alerts and analytic visualizations to inform maintenance planning and shift operations.
Governance followed a staged rollout, moving from POC to a targeted pilot to validate models and operational workflows, with process changes focused on shifting from reactive to proactive maintenance. The stated outcomes from the pilot included early detection of equipment problems and the ability for plant operators to proactively respond and fix equipment before larger issues developed.
