In 2020, Pets at Home implemented SAP S/4 HANA as its ERP Financial platform. A Business Analyst contracted to Pets at Home from March 2021 to August 2022 supported the ongoing finance transformation program centered on SAP S/4 HANA, working across finance stakeholders to translate requirements into executable process design.
The implementation work focused on finance process design and controls, with the analyst documenting 27 To-Be level 3 and 4 process maps using BPMN and UML notation in MS Visio and producing 11 Process Narratives to accompany those maps. Documentation explicitly aligned process steps to Sarbanes Oxley controls, supporting record to report workflows, accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, period close sequencing and manual journal posting procedures consistent with ERP Financial capabilities.
Operational coverage concentrated on finance teams and cross-functional stakeholders engaged in the Finance Transformation program, with the analyst eliciting and analysing stakeholder requirements and processes. The role supported Business Acceptance Testing and defect management activities, and contributed to change readiness efforts to prepare finance users for SAP S/4 HANA adoption.
Project governance activities included adhering to project governance frameworks, identifying RAIDs and contributing to project planning artifacts. In 2019, Pets at Home implemented SAP SuccessFactors Compensation as the designated Compensation Management solution within a wider SAP SuccessFactors program that also encompassed Employee Central, Performance and Goals Management, Time Off, Onboarding 2.0, LMS, JAM, and Recruitment RMK and RCM. The SAP SuccessFactors Compensation deployment was positioned to centralize compensation planning and administration across HR and talent management functions, aligning pay processes with existing performance and goal data.
Configuration work focused on standard Compensation Management capabilities, including pay and bonus planning workflows, approval routing, role based permissions, and reportable data models. The team built analytics using SuccessFactors reporting and stories to support compensation cycles and to consume performance ratings, with the SAP SuccessFactors Compensation application acting as the authoritative pay planning module.
Integrations were explicitly implemented with Employee Central as the HR record of truth and with PeopleDoc for contract and archiving workflows, while the SuccessFactors suite connections extended to recruitment and learning modules. Operational coverage included Pets at Home HR teams with local administration in Manchester and Swindon, and the internal SuccessFactors team managed third party support and implementation providers to maintain cross module data flows.
Governance centered on Role Based Permissions, administration guides, and end user training, supported by ongoing SuccessFactors webinars and analytics enablement. Operational responsibilities included maintaining user training materials, administering permissions, and hosting governance forums to sustain compensation cycle integrity and cross functional process orchestration.

In 2021 Pets at Home implemented Salesforce Chat (formerly Salesforce Live Agent) as part of its Chatbots and Conversational AI tooling for online customer engagement. The rollout was led by the Head of Online Product with four Product Owner teams accountable for the digital roadmap, and governance reporting into the Digital Director.
The implementation concentrated on Salesforce Chat webchat and Direct to Agent capabilities, configured across web and app channels to support agent handoff and store colleague assisted journeys. Configuration and optimization were informed by Google Analytics, ContentSquare, and Hotjar, backlog and work allocation were managed in Jira, and execution involved managed relationships with outsourced development organisations.
This work formed part of a broader program to move to a new in house prioritised digital web and app solution and to define Agile ways of working, with close liaison between product, customer service, and store colleagues. Pets at Home delivered multiple cost saving and customer journey enhancing products including Salesforce Webchat and Direct to Agent as part of this program.
