In 2021, ABN AMRO implemented SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central Payroll as a core Payroll solution to standardize HR and payroll processes and drive greater process efficiency. The engagement was structured as an end-to-end HR and payroll platform delivery in partnership with Alight, with the stated goals to enhance the employee experience, increase compliance, and provide data-driven insights for HR decision making.
The deployment centered on SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central Payroll alongside a broader Alight Worklife platform configuration, and included Personnel Administration, Workforce Services, HR and Payroll Services including garnishments, and comprehensive Managed Payroll Services. The program incorporated an omni-channel Employee Service Desk for all employee groups in the Netherlands, Employee File Management capabilities, and an engagement platform through Benify, reflecting a functional footprint across core payroll, benefits administration, personnel data management, and employee experience tooling.
Systems and data were integrated into the Alight Worklife platform to unify people processes and operational workflows, with explicit integrations noted for Employee File Management using UKG Document Management and eVaut, and benefit engagement connected to Benify. Alight committed onsite resources and applied machine learning to develop and automate payroll-adjacent processes, enabling tighter orchestration between HR, payroll, workforce services, and payroll deduction scenarios such as mortgage discount processing for former employees.
Governance and rollout included a dedicated Alight team delivering change management and an employee experience program, and a jointly developed Innovation Roadmap to address data, technology and process gaps with shared risk acceptance. The engagement explicitly positioned SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central Payroll within ABN AMROs HR architecture to improve flexibility, reduce operational risk, and better meet employee needs while centralizing payroll and HR operational functions under the Alight Worklife platform.

Acuity Brands | Manufacturing | 13200 | $3.8B | United States | SAP | SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central Payroll | Payroll | 2019 | n/a |
In 2019, Acuity Brands implemented SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central Payroll as part of a full SuccessFactors suite rollout. The program deployed Employee Central, Employee Central Payroll, Performance Management and Goals Management, Learning Management System, Compensation, Recruiting, Recruiting Marketing, and Onboarding and Offboarding, with a hard cutover across eight countries on January 1, 2019.
The SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central Payroll implementation used a cloud-first SuccessFactors suite design with centralized tenant governance and country-specific payroll configuration to support local statutory and payroll processing differences. Core Payroll configuration was aligned with Employee Central master data and compensation workflows, while talent modules were configured to feed position, job and pay structure into payroll runs and payroll-related approvals were instrumented through SuccessFactors workflow capabilities.
Integrations were scoped to synchronize workforce and benefits inputs, explicitly including Workforce Software for time and attendance and Benefitfocus for benefits enrollment and eligibility feeds. Payroll data flow was organized to accept time capture from Workforce Software, employee and organizational data from Employee Central, and benefits deductions from Benefitfocus, with system-to-system interfaces orchestrated to support payroll runs and post-payroll payroll posting processes.
Project governance was run under a Global Project Manager from June 2017 through February 2019, using a centralized cutover plan and coordinated testing and validation cycles across HR, payroll and talent acquisition functions. The rollout approach was a big bang across eight countries on the target go live date, requiring coordinated change management, country-specific payroll validations and cross-functional cutover activities to align HR operations with the new SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central Payroll Payroll platform.
