UKG Legacy UKG Pro HCM (ex UltiPro HCM) Core HR HCM n/a 2016 2016
In 2016, Phoenix Suns implemented UKG Pro HCM (ex UltiPro HCM) as its Core HR platform to centralize payroll and workforce processes across the organization that supports the Phoenix Suns, Phoenix Mercury, and Footprint Center. The deployment focused on the Payroll Services Department based at Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona and covered multi-cycle, multi-state payroll responsibilities for players and staff while enabling HRIS and workforce management support for in-arena and office roles performed within Arizona. UKG Pro HCM (ex UltiPro HCM) was configured to support core payroll and HR capabilities including multi-cycle payroll processing, payroll spreadsheets and imports, pay card program administration, paid time off accruals and compliance with Arizona sick pay rules under Prop 206, and calculation and funding processes for the MLB Investment Plan for eligible players and staff. The implementation included configurable payroll data file creation for regular payroll runs, tracking of per diems and taxable fringe benefits within payroll systems and spreadsheets, and financial reporting outputs for Accounting and league stakeholders. Operational coverage emphasized application support and end user enablement, with Payroll Operations providing frontline support to employees and managers for HRIS and Workforce Management applications, and training of staff to improve full utilization of payroll applications. The system footprint supported the preparation of regulatory and league reports for NBA, WNBA and MLB, produced auditor-facing documentation, and maintained data for travel and state apportionment calculations for all teams. Governance and process changes were centered on the Payroll Operations Manager role, which oversaw administrative, technical, financial and reporting functions, supervised Payroll Specialists, developed training plans, and instituted quarterly audits of paid time off balances. Process documentation, error research and resolution workflows, and routines for spreadsheet maintenance and data imports were formalized to ensure accurate employee records and consistent payroll execution.
