In 2020 Purolator migrated from SAP ERP ECC 6.0 to SAP S/4 HANA as a strategic ERP Financial program, combining an S/4 HANA upgrade with a private data center migration into AWS public cloud for the whole SAP landscape. The initiative targeted core finance and operational functions across the organization and was positioned as a company wide SAP S/4 HANA modernization effort to consolidate financial, billing and operational processing under the ERP Financial footprint.
The implementation scope covered financial and controlling modules including FI and CO, order to cash processes including OTC, subscription and billing using BRIM, planning and consolidation with BPC, governance with GRC, and workforce and payroll through SuccessFactors Employee Central, benefits and EC payroll integrated to SAP ERP. Procurement and travel expense workflows were addressed with Ariba and Concur, with a specific emphasis on Ariba shopping cart and catalogue management integrated globally to SAP ECC prior to and during cutover to SAP S/4 HANA.
Architecturally the program planned a hybrid topology, moving the private data center SAP landscape into AWS while retaining integration touchpoints to on premise systems. Integration patterns were defined using SAP Cloud Platform portal, Cloud Platform Integration CPI, and SAP Analytics Cloud SAC, including design work for BRIM component sizing and workforce time management integration. A private data center decommissioning proposal was introduced that included data retention, transition and ongoing maintenance considerations, and a SAP Model Company approach was recommended to accelerate configuration and reduce implementation risk.
Program governance and delivery were organized through a PMO cadence run daily and weekly, using ServiceNow, JIRA, ChangePoint and Microsoft SharePoint to coordinate a team of approximately 100 stakeholders and provide internal audit transparency. The senior SAP project management role led stakeholder engagement across business owners and external consulting firms, driving requirements, cadence efficiency and rollout sequencing for finance, billing, HR and procurement processes.
Financial planning and executive decision support included a 10 year business case that modeled As is total cost of ownership and To be scenarios for SAP license, implementation and support across SAP and the AWS cloud platform, employing standard financial metrics such as Net Present Value, Internal Rate of Return, ROI and payback period. The program documentation notes positive recognition and increased confidence from external consultants including Accenture, Deloitte, SAP, AWS and Innovapost, and broad acknowledgement of the proposed infrastructure and data center transition approach.

In 2018, Purolator implemented Sterling Background Check to centralize pre-employment screening across its recruitment and onboarding processes. Sterling Background Check served as Purolator's BackGround Screening capability for HR and Talent Acquisition, and the program required active liaison with hiring managers and multiple levels of management to ensure smooth onboarding of new hires.
Configuration emphasized core BackGround Screening capabilities, including identity verification, criminal record screening, employment and education verification, and case management workflows for candidate status tracking. Sterling Background Check was configured to manage candidate intake, adjudication rules, and vendor case escalation, aligning screening activities with onboarding milestones and clearance gates.
Operationally, Purolator coordinated directly with the Sterling Talent Solutions vendor to validate completeness of background checks and to manage exceptions and escalations. The implementation connected screening workflows into Purolator’s hiring and HR operations cadence, with role-based access controls for HR reviewers and hiring managers and defined sign-off gates prior to employee start dates.
Governance included designated HR points of contact for screening review, standardized completeness checklists, and processes to route exceptions to compliance or legal stakeholders. The rollout focused on embedding BackGround Screening into hiring workflows, clarifying ownership across recruiting, HR operations, and hiring management to reduce administrative handoffs and ensure consistent verification practices.
