Shell Technographics, Software Purchases, AI and Digital Transformation Initiatives
Discover the latest software purchases and digital transformation initiatives being undertaken by Shell and its business and technology executives. Each quarter our research team identifies on-prem and cloud applications that are being used by the 96000 Shell employees from the public (Press Releases, Customer References, Testimonials, Case Studies and Success Stories) and proprietary sources.
During our research, we have identified that Shell has purchased the following applications: FIS Integrated Payables for AP Automation in 2018, UKG Workforce Central Absence Manager (ex Kronos Workforce Absence Manager) for Absence and Leave Management in 2012, C3 AI Reliability for Asset Performance Management in 2017 and the related IT decision-makers and key stakeholders.
Our database provides customer insight and contextual information on which enterprise applications and software systems Shell is running and its propensity to invest more and deepen its relationship with FIS Global , Infor , Aqilla or identify new suppliers as part of their overall Digital and IT transformation projects to stay competitive, fend off threats from disruptive forces, or comply with internal mandates to improve overall enterprise efficiency.
We have been analyzing Shell revenues, which have grown to $284.31 billion in 2024, plus its IT budget and roadmap, cloud software purchases, aggregating massive amounts of data points that form the basis of our forecast assumptions for Shell intention to invest in emerging technologies such as AI, Machine Learning, IoT, Blockchain, Autonomous Database or in cloud-based ERP, HCM, CRM, EPM, Procurement or Treasury applications.

| FIS Global | Legacy | FIS Integrated Payables | AP Automation | ERP Financial Management | n/a | 2018 | 2018 |
In 2018, Shell implemented FIS Integrated Payables to centralize accounts payable processing and strengthen Treasury and Corporate Finance controls, positioning the solution as a core AP Automation capability within its finance portfolio. FIS Integrated Payables was configured to provide automated invoice capture, approval workflows, payment orchestration and reconciliation across supplier payments and accounts payable lifecycles.
The deployment emphasized standard AP Automation functional modules such as electronic invoice processing, workflow driven approvals, exception management for invoice disputes, straight through payment processing and remittance reconciliation. Configuration work included multi currency payment routing and payment file generation to support treasury payment execution and payment rail orchestration, with parameterized rules for routing and approval limits.
Integration and operational coverage focused on Treasury and Corporate Finance teams, with explicit technical support for the Quantum Treasury Management System upgrade as part of broader treasury platform activity. Operational stakeholders included cash management, liquidity and foreign exchange functions, and the system was positioned to interoperate with existing treasury processes and payment execution channels.
Governance emphasized central technical assurance and product level controls, aligning projects with enterprise strategy and architectural simplification efforts that targeted removal of non core applications. Delivery combined advisory portfolio SME oversight with hands on delivery when resourcing constraints required, and the program was intended to improve long term value delivery and reduce maintenance costs in future operations.

| UKG | Legacy | UKG Workforce Central Absence Manager (ex Kronos Workforce Absence Manager) | Absence and Leave Management | HCM | n/a | 2012 | 2012 |
In 2012 Shell implemented UKG Workforce Central Absence Manager (ex Kronos Workforce Absence Manager) for Absence and Leave Management to centralize absence, accrual and timekeeping workflows across HR and Payroll functions. The deployment positioned UKG Workforce Central Absence Manager as the core absence and leave management platform supporting multiple production locations and workforce analytics use cases.
The implementation encompassed Kronos Workforce Central 8.0 components and modules including Workforce Central, Workforce Analytics, Workforce Timekeeper, Workforce Scheduler and Advanced Scheduler, Leave management, Accruals, Device Manager and Process Manager. Configuration work included full cycle implementation tasks such as access profiles, pay rules, customized work rules, paycodes and combined paycodes, wage profiles, labor level structures and labor level sets, scheduler and advanced scheduler setups, accrual plans from holiday setup to multi organization accruals, Navigator and Administrator configuration, Hyperfind queries, Genies, lookup tables and user profiles.
Integrations were implemented via Workforce Integration Manager for inbound employee data and outbound payroll hours and wage files, explicitly creating and maintaining WIM interfaces for transfer of employee data between Kronos and ADP. Technical delivery included SQL based queries and views, custom report development, WIM interface programming, and data migration activities from SQL Server, Excel and SharePoint document libraries into SQL Server to support conversion of payroll, HRIS, timekeeping and attendance data.
Governance and rollout activity involved working with department heads to finalize business, functional and technical requirements, authoring business process models, defining project tasks, timelines and roll out procedures, and executing change management and production support. Operational support responsibilities included troubleshooting connection issues, service management and service pack application for Workforce Central, maintaining accrual and absence configurations, resolving HR and payroll interface issues, and delivering Workforce Analytics as a web enabled system across more than 20 facilities on schedule and consistently under project budget.

| C3.ai | Legacy | C3 AI Reliability | Asset Performance Management | ERP Services and Operations | n/a | 2017 | 2017 |
In 2017, Shell deployed C3 AI Reliability as an Asset Performance Management application. The initiative was positioned to integrate large volumes of data at scale in the cloud and to operationalize predictive analytics for asset health across operational teams.
The C3 AI Reliability implementation concentrated on scalable data ingestion, feature engineering, and model training pipelines, enabling thousands of machine learning models to be trained and managed in production as described by Dan Jeavons, GM Data Science. Functional capabilities implemented align with Asset Performance Management practices and included predictive maintenance modeling, anomaly detection, asset health scoring, and production model orchestration.
Deployment architecture emphasized cloud scale analytics and integration of telemetry from sensors and operational historians, structured asset registries, and maintenance work order streams into the C3 AI Reliability environment. The operational scope focused on Shell asset and operations teams responsible for equipment reliability and maintenance planning.
Governance and operationalization addressed machine learning lifecycle management, including scheduled retraining, production monitoring of models, and embedding model outputs into maintenance decision workflows. Dan Jeavons characterized the C3 AI platform as a real enabler, enabling Shell to integrate large volumes of data and to operate thousands of machine learning models in production, without specific outcome metrics provided.
