In 2021, RWE Power implemented SAP S/4 HANA as its ERP Financial platform to consolidate finance related processes and to embed Real Estate Management capabilities within the enterprise ERP stack. The adoption of SAP S/4 HANA centered on finance, controlling, and real estate management as primary business functions supporting corporate accounting and asset lifecycle activities.
The implementation concentrated on the SAP RE-FX module for real estate management, complemented by the Solution Documentation Manager for configuration governance, the Fiori Board with its associated apps for user facing processes, and the Office suite for project collaboration. SAP S/4 HANA was configured to coordinate asset accounting, finance, and controlling modules, aligning master data and transactional flows across those functional domains.
Integration work focused on orchestrating the individual areas and modules inside the SAP S/4 HANA environment, with cross functional touchpoints between RE-FX, asset accounting, general ledger finance, and CO controlling processes. The project scope included international test management, indicating centralized test planning, cross border test execution, and consolidation of test artifacts to validate end to end financial and real estate workflows.
Governance and rollout activities were structured around solution documentation and coordinated module integration, using the Solution Documentation Manager to maintain traceability of configuration decisions and the Fiori Board to manage app level user interactions. In 2022, RWE Power implemented SAP SuccessFactors Compensation on its corporate SuccessFactors instance managed by Corporate IT & SAP. The deployment was executed from the Essen HR IT organization, which operates SAP HCM and a global SuccessFactors footprint of six modules while providing payroll and central HR module support for selected countries. This placement establishes the SAP SuccessFactors Compensation application as a central element of the Compensation Management layer in the group-wide HR cloud architecture.
The implementation work focused on functional configuration of SAP SuccessFactors Compensation, delivered through inhouse consultants who produced concepts, requirements analyses, process designs and test cases. Configuration activities included implementing business rules for compensation cycles, bonus calculation logic and salary adjustment workflows, creating approval routing and data mapping to align with central HR processes. Project responsibilities also encompassed support for offer creation, project planning and independent coordination of rollout tasks prior to handover into operational support.
Operational integration aligned the SAP SuccessFactors Compensation module with the corporate SAP HCM landscape to ensure payroll and master data consistency for the selected country scopes managed by HR IT. The scope of coverage included HR compensation administration, HR business partners and senior management review processes, and required collaboration with internal and external partners for testing, training and knowledge transfer. The Essen site serves as the principal IT contact point for the module and for ongoing operational stewardship.
Governance was formalized by assigning an inhouse consultant as the IT owner for SAP SuccessFactors Compensation, responsible for operational maintenance, stakeholder workshops, training for HR teams and presentations to senior management. Continuous system development and change control are executed within Corporate IT & SAP, integrating configuration change cycles with HR process documentation and testing. The implementation clarifies the relationship between RWE Power, SAP SuccessFactors Compensation, Compensation Management and the HR functions that administer and govern compensation processes.
