In 2016, Safeway deployed Coggno LMS to deliver Underground Storage Tank safety training across its US retail operations. The engagement operated as a safety and HR compliance deployment targeting temporary and hourly staff at nationwide store locations, and it was executed as part of Safeway’s Learning and Development program.
The implementation leveraged Coggno LMS modules described in the vendor case study, specifically the Virtual Training Kiosk for on site training delivery and a branded training site to present content and manage enrollments. The Virtual Training Kiosk served as a point of service training channel at stores, while the branded training site centralized course access, user provisioning and digital license tracking.
Operational ownership aligned with HR compliance and store operations, who used the system to assign, monitor and administrate Underground Storage Tank certifications for hourly and temporary workers across US locations. Governance emphasized centralized oversight of license management and store level access controls to simplify compliance reporting and administration.
According to the vendor case study, the deployment increased compliance and simplified license management for Safeway’s safety program, illustrating a Learning and Development implementation focused on regulated workforce training and HR compliance.

In 2013, Safeway implemented MicroStrategy ONE Analytics in the Analytics and BI category to centralize category-level reporting and promotional planning for the Bake Team. The deployment targeted category analytics workflows that feed the company promotional calendar, with outputs consumed by store operations and vendor partners across the Safeway brand.
MicroStrategy ONE Analytics was configured to deliver interactive dashboards, scorecards, and ad hoc reporting for SKU level sales analysis and promotional performance. Functional capabilities emphasized quantitative sales analysis, promotional lift modeling, and visual merchandising analytics, leveraging inputs from the Bake Team to populate a calendar of store-executed promotions.
The implementation integrated data feeds and operational datasets from existing analytic systems explicitly used by the team, including Teradata, eDeals Demandtec, NOPA processing, RTPP, 50% Markdowns, FOMD visual merchandising program, ENIFs, Obtura, Omniview, and SIMS. These integrations fed MicroStrategy ONE Analytics to provide consolidated, store-level and SKU-level views that supported promotional execution across all Safeway stores.
Governance centered on a vendor coordination and promotion workflow, with analysts translating multi-system data into the promotional calendar and operational directives for stores. The consolidated MicroStrategy ONE Analytics deployment enabled more consistent promotional planning and execution for the Bake Team, supporting what the team described as more effective marketing strategy driven by quantitative sales analysis.
