In 2022 Singing River Health System implemented Starlims Abbott eScreen to manage its occupational drug and alcohol testing program. The Starlims Abbott eScreen deployment served BackGround Screening needs across occupational health, HR, and safety workflows, supporting pre-employment, work comp, and random testing programs.
Operationally the implementation centered on Medical Review Officer workflows and specimen result management. Staff reviewed and resulted all urine drug screens and alcohol tests through Starlims Abbott eScreen, consulted with the Medical Review Officer on positive results, and sent finalized results to requestors. The platform was used to drop charges for drug screens and to manage work queues, and the team ordered drug screen supplies and coordinated specimen logistics within the application.
The deployment covered a mix of local and national accounts, with testing organized and performed through eScreen for Singing River and national clients, and with random drug screen scheduling for CDL holders through Jackson County. A part time Medical Review Officer Assistant supported the system from March 2022 to December 2022, performing daily result review and case handling in varying hours between 8 am and 5 pm.
Governance and process controls were established around MRO adjudication and staff competency, staff were trained to perform Non-Federal, Federal, and BAT testing, and workflows were structured to ensure MRO consultation on positives, queue-driven case management, and centralized result distribution via Starlims Abbott eScreen. This arrangement positioned the application as the operational hub for BackGround Screening business functions at Singing River Health System.
