| SAP | Legacy | SAP S/4 HANA | ERP Financial | ERP | n/a | 2021 | 2021 |
In 2021, Suncor deployed SAP S/4 HANA as its ERP Financial platform to centralize finance planning and reporting across its integrated oil sands, refining and marketing operations. The implementation is framed as a corporate finance modernization to support IFRS reporting, external reporting and investor relations disclosure needs while aligning with commercial supply and trading decision inputs.
The SAP S/4 HANA deployment emphasized financial control and planning capabilities, including core general ledger, accounts receivable and payable, consolidation, financial planning and budgeting, and profitability analysis to support refining and marketing gross margin analysis. Configuration work targeted automation of the annual budgeting cycle, standardized ledger structures and cost objects for Oil Sands netback disclosure, and embedded profitability workflows to align operational margins with corporate financial reporting.
Operational scope covered Finance, Investor Relations, External Reporting and advisory functions for Supply Trading and Optimization, consolidating financial statement note disclosures and market access valuation into a single ERP Financial platform. No specific third party system integrations were provided in the source notes, the implementation instead positioned SAP S/4 HANA as the central financial ledger and planning engine for corporate and operational finance teams.
Governance changes focused on streamlining the annual budgeting process and optimizing the Finance service offering, with updated reporting workflows and control points to support external financial disclosures and margin analysis. The program was described as part of ongoing automation and optimization efforts within Suncor Finance, with SAP S/4 HANA serving as the foundational ERP Financial system for those initiatives.

| Workday | Legacy | Workday Absence Management | Absence and Leave Management | HCM | n/a | 2020 | 2020 |
In 2020, Suncor implemented Workday Absence Management to establish an enterprise Absence and Leave Management capability for HR operations. The deployment focused on configuring standard absence types, entitlement and accrual rules, time-off request submission, and manager approval workflows to support employee leave administration.
Workday Absence Management was configured with policy templates, approval matrices, and absence reporting to enable HR Advisors to administer complex leave scenarios and ensure consistent policy enforcement. The HR Advisor role is explicitly associated with day to day configuration and operational oversight of absence processes.
Operational coverage emphasized HR and people managers as primary users for case management and approvals, with employee self-service for requests and balance inquiries. Governance included defined configuration controls, role based access for absence administration, and process documentation to standardize request handling and compliance controls.

| Bentley Systems | Legacy | AssetWise ALIM | Asset Performance Management | ERP Services and Operations | n/a | 2018 | 2018 |
In 2018, Suncor implemented AssetWise ALIM as the core of a CAN$ 12 million Information Plant at its Edmonton refinery. The Information Plant consolidated the facility’s technical data, engineering resource planning information, and documents into one reliable system to support daily operations, maintenance, projects, and business decision making, positioning AssetWise ALIM within an Asset Performance Management context.
The implementation established a central reliability index of documents tied to tagged assets, implemented as a standards-based technical data warehouse using Bentley Data Quality Server, now known as AssetWise ALIM, to enable automation and total lifecycle asset information. ProjectWise was used to manage project and operations documents, data, models, and drawings in their native file formats, AutoPLANT provided 3D modeling and 2D deliverables, and Bentley Navigator enabled model viewing and clash detection.
Cross-referencing assets with associated information enabled the Information Plant to support critical processes including change management and project turnover, and to facilitate search and retrieval of technical information across platform boundaries. The system was deployed progressively and now serves as the integrated system for ongoing operations and project work at the Edmonton refinery, covering engineering, operations, maintenance, and project execution teams.
Governance elements included continuous monitoring of information quality, consistent tools and processes to improve user experience, and centralized document reliability to inform operational decision making. The project cost and implementation delivered stated outcomes, saving CAN$ 5.7 million in the first year, yielding CAN$ 1.6 million in annual savings thereafter, and achieving total ROI within five years while reducing time required to find and view information and lowering overall safety risks.
