SAP Legacy SAP S/4 HANA ERP Financial ERP Financial Management n/a 2019 2020
In 2019, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) implemented SAP S/4 HANA to support enterprise ERP Financial operations. The implementation positioned SAP S/4 HANA as the core financial platform across TxDOT's centralized finance organization and statewide accounting activities. SAP S/4 HANA was configured to provide core financial accounting capabilities including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, asset accounting, budgeting and fund accounting, and statutory financial reporting tailored for a government agency. Configuration emphasized multi-ledger accounting, fund-based budgeting, and integrated asset lifecycle accounting. The deployment leveraged S/4 HANA financial modules to standardize the chart of accounts and transaction workflows across functional areas. The S/4 HANA deployment integrated financial workflows with procurement, fixed asset management, and treasury processes to unify transactional posting and reconciliation. Integrations were executed using standard SAP interface patterns and enterprise data models to connect operational systems and reporting layers within TxDOT. Operational scope covered finance, procurement, and treasury teams statewide, supporting accounting close cycles and public sector compliance reporting. Governance was organized around centralized master data management, role based access controls, and standardized approval workflows to strengthen fiscal controls and auditability. The TxDOT deployment occurred within a broader S/4HANA adoption wave, with S/4HANA adoption growing to more than 11,500 customers in 2019 and SAP reporting 600 customers added in the quarter, roughly 50 percent of which were net new. SAP and Intel also established a Center of Excellence and proof of concept efforts to simplify and accelerate migrations to SAP S/4 HANA for shared customers.
