Banco Itau | Banking and Financial Services | 93200 | $28.4B | Brazil | IDEMIA | IDEMIA F.CODE | Card Personalization | 2022 | n/a |
In 2022, Banco Itau implemented IDEMIA F.CODE for Card Personalization to support issuance of 100 percent recycled plastic payment cards for its iti digital bank brand. The deployment focused on personalization processes for the new GREENPAY sustainable card portfolio, and as of October 2022 all new iti account holders in Brazil receive the recycled plastic payment card at no additional cost to the customer. IDEMIA F.CODE is referenced as the application used to personalize physical payment credentials, aligning the Card Personalization capability with the bank's product issuance flow.
The implementation configured personalization workflows to embed inclusive-by-design attributes such as Braille tactile markings and a side notch to aid touch orientation, while applying visual artwork and secure card data encoding consistent with payment industry requirements. IDEMIA F.CODE supported handling of recycled substrate materials within the personalization line, enabling end-to-end processing from material receipt to finished card output as implied by the use of IDEMIA’s GREENPAY portfolio. Functional terminology used in operations included personalization, secure EMV data encoding, tactile feature application, and sustainable material handling practices.
Operational coverage extended to iti’s account onboarding and card issuance lifecycle, with personalization integrated into the bank’s existing card order and dispatch processes to ensure all newly opened accounts receive the recycled card. The rollout emphasized product and issuance functions across the iti channel, leveraging the bank’s mobile-first account provisioning to trigger card personalization and fulfillment. This implementation therefore positioned Card Personalization as a direct enabler of iti’s customer issuance workflows.
Governance and product strategy were aligned to Itaú Unibanco’s environmental, social, and governance commitments, with the new card program reinforcing the bank’s Positive Impact Commitments toward reduced environmental impact by 2030. Outcomes explicitly stated include reduced waste, lower greenhouse gas emissions, and conserved energy and water through use of recycled plastics, alongside third party recognition for the GREENPAY portfolio such as Mastercard sustainable card certification and ICMA EcoLabel Standard certification. The initiative also maintained accessibility and inclusion objectives within the Card Personalization scope while embedding sustainability into product governance.

JCB | Insurance | 4555 | $2.7B | Japan | IDEMIA | IDEMIA F.CODE | Card Personalization | 2019 | n/a |
In 2019 JCB implemented IDEMIA F.CODE as a Card Personalization proof of concept to introduce biometric payment cards. The deployment was presented as part of JCB and IDEMIA collaboration on payment innovation that began in 2016 and advanced through a proof of concept starting March 2018, positioning IDEMIA F.CODE within JCB’s card personalization activity for stronger authentication in card transactions.
The implementation focused on biometric enrollment and on-card authentication capabilities, using fingerprint recognition to replace the PIN for cardholder verification. IDEMIA F.CODE was configured to provide unique biometric identification and privacy-preserving authentication, enabling transparent transaction flows and supporting contactless payment for high value transactions under the Card Personalization program.
Technically the project was paired with JCB’s token initiatives, given JCB and IDEMIA had earlier developed the JCB Token Platform JTP to enable mobile payments, and the F.CODE proof of concept was integrated in that broader payments context. The architecture emphasized secure binding of biometric credentials to the card payment credential, biometric verification at the card level, and interoperability with contactless payment rails consistent with Card Personalization operations.
Governance and rollout were executed as a partnered innovation track between JCB and IDEMIA, validated through industry review and awards. The collaboration and the IDEMIA F.CODE implementation were publicly recognized with two Cards and Electronic Payments International Asia Awards in 2019 for Best security initiative and Best NFC security initiative, reflecting external validation of the biometric card personalization work.

manager.one | Banking and Financial Services | 95 | $20M | France | IDEMIA | IDEMIA F.CODE | Card Personalization | 2022 | n/a |
In 2022, manager.one implemented IDEMIA F.CODE in the Card Personalization category as a biometric-enabled payment card proposition for its professional customers. The IDEMIA F.CODE biometric payment card embeds a fingerprint sensor and an on-card biometric template, enabling EMV compliant contactless and chip transactions authenticated by the cardholder fingerprint rather than a four digit PIN.
The implementation centers on on-card biometric authentication architecture, with the fingerprint sensor integrated into the card form factor and biometric data stored securely in the card chip so the template never leaves the card. IDEMIA F.CODE’s second generation technology is used to authenticate transactions at tap or insert events, preserving contactless flows while enabling authentication above previous contactless thresholds.
From a Card Personalization standpoint the deployment involved personalization and secure provisioning processes typical for issuer-grade card issuance, including writing EMV credentials and the biometric template during card personalization and provisioning. The solution was integrated into manager.one’s card issuance lifecycle to deliver biometric enrollment at issuance and to provision cards ready for merchant POS authentication.
Operational scope covered a pilot rollout to manager.one professional customers in France, aligning product, payments and customer experience functions to support biometric enrollment, issuance workflows and point of sale authentication. Privacy controls and governance are centered on the on-card storage model, a stated design choice to keep biometric data local to the chip, and the implementation is positioned to increase secure contactless usage among manager.one clients.
