HEDNO | Utilities | 6000 | $1.0B | Greece | Itron | Itron MDM | Utilities ERP | 2025 | n/a |
In 2025 HEDNO implemented Itron MDM as part of a national grid modernization program. The deployment uses Itron’s Enterprise Edition Meter Data Management system to oversee approximately 7.7 million meters and to onboard nearly 1 million new narrowband IoT cellular smart meters supplied by ZIV Automation. This HEDNO Itron MDM Utilities ERP deployment targets operational metering, grid intelligence, and customer service functions across Greece’s distribution network.
Configuration emphasizes core meter data management capabilities including meter data ingestion, validation and cleansing, analytics and reporting, and device lifecycle and telemetry management. The implementation leverages Itron Grid Edge Intelligence to bring edge processing and event-level telemetry into the MDM workflow, enabling more timely fault detection and consumption insight. Itron MDM is configured to support large scale batch and near real time data flows consistent with Utilities ERP operational needs.
Architecturally the solution is positioned on Microsoft Azure cloud services, incorporating Azure capabilities and generative AI tooling to augment analytics and anomaly detection, and to provide scalable storage and processing. Integrations explicitly include ZIV Automation smart meters and connections to HEDNO’s existing operational systems, enabling meter telemetry to feed centralized MDM analytics and downstream operational applications. The deployment design supports national scale data ingestion, aggregation, and distribution to grid operations and customer service domains.
Governance and rollout are framed around grid modernization objectives and integration governance, aligning meter fleet onboarding, data quality controls, and operational workflows for outage resolution and consumption reporting. The program is intended to enable integration of distributed energy resources and to support HEDNO’s pathway to net zero by 2050 through improved visibility and control. Stakeholders have noted the project scale and reliance on partner-supplied meters as a source of heightened operational expectation and potential delivery risk.

Qatar Cool | Utilities | 150 | $80M | Qatar | Itron | Itron MDM | Utilities ERP | 2023 | n/a |
In 2023, Qatar Cool implemented Itron MDM as part of its Utilities ERP deployment, upgrading its existing EMMSYS MDM data collection and meter data management capacity to support thermal energy operations. The upgrade included deployment of 25,000 Itron thermal energy meters for cooling application and targeted day to day network management and customer reporting functions.
Itron MDM, deployed as an upgraded EMMSYS MDM instance in Qatar Cool's environment, was configured to provide detailed data analysis, enhanced reporting, diagram and map overviews, and work order management modules that align metering data with operational workflows. The solution’s newly designed web interface enabled remote access for field technicians and provided a unified standard interface intended to simplify daily operations and data access.
The implementation was executed in collaboration with channel partner QIFEM, which delivered local technical support for meter installation and system rollout. The MDM solution was connected to the utility billing system to surface detailed consumption reports and optional alerts for high cooling usage, and it managed a distributed cooling meter network across Qatar Cool sites.
Governance in the rollout emphasized network management processes, expanded reporting and management capabilities, and integration points for operational teams and customer service functions. Qatar Cool reported that the upgraded Itron MDM improves customer awareness and satisfaction through access to detailed consumption reports and alerts, and positions the utility to further enhance operational efficiency and reduce its carbon footprint while building on a 13 year relationship with Itron and QIFEM that provided on site technical support.

Southern California Edison | Utilities | 14013 | $17.5B | United States | Itron | Itron MDM | Utilities ERP | 2011 | n/a |
In 2011 Southern California Edison implemented Itron MDM, deploying Itron Enterprise Edition Meter Data Management as a core component of its Edison SmartConnect smart metering program. The implementation falls under the Utilities ERP category and was executed alongside the large scale roll out of Itron OpenWay smart meters across SCE’s 50,000 square mile service territory, with more than two million meters installed and a plan to reach approximately five million by the end of 2012.
The Itron Enterprise Edition Meter Data Management deployment centralized meter data ingestion, interval data handling, and billing-enabling functions to support hourly residential and 15 minute small business interval billing. Itron MDM was configured to store and process interval reads and meter related data at scale, and to support exportable feeds for downstream billing and customer-facing use cases.
Architecturally the MDM was integrated with Itron OpenWay meters for data collection and exported meter and meter related data to an enterprise data warehouse provided by Teradata to support customer web presentment. The implementation included interfaces to SCE back office billing systems to enable interval billing workflows, and data flows were exercised under operational conditions to validate end to end processing.
Governance and rollout were executed as a collaborative program between SCE and Itron, including jointly executed scale and performance tests under SCE daily operational and peak day conditions. The successful completion of the Itron MDM deployment established the back office foundation required to begin billing from hourly residential and 15 minute small business interval usage, and positioned the Utilities ERP meter data layer to support customer web presentment and operational billing workflows.

Tenaga Nasional | Utilities | 30571 | $12.1B | Malaysia | Itron | Itron MDM | Utilities ERP | 2007 | n/a |
In 2007, Tenaga Nasional implemented Itron MDM by deploying Itron Enterprise Edition (IEE) meter data management software as part of its Remote Meter Reading initiative. The implementation is recorded under the Utilities ERP category and targeted 90,000 Low Voltage commercial and industrial meters to automate meter data collection, analysis and the billing process.
Itron Enterprise Edition (IEE) meter data management software was configured to collect energy consumption information and to build a central repository for daily meter data collection and analysis. Functional capabilities implemented included multi vendor meter data consolidation, profile generation for detailed customer load analysis, data validation and edit routines, and automated data production to support billing workflows and distribution system efficiency assessments.
The deployment architecture established a data collection and production center alongside a disaster recovery center, with GSM used as the communications infrastructure and remote metering equipment installed at TNB Large Power Consumer meter sites. Itron delivered the MDM software in collaboration with local partner Impianas Sdn Bhd, with Impianas providing full project management and onsite implementation support.
Operational coverage focused on TNBs commercial and industrial meter population, enabling TNB to collect, analyze and manage C&I metering data in a single system for daily operational use. Business functions affected included meter data management operations, customer service for C&I accounts, billing generation processes and electric distribution monitoring.
Governance and rollout included a ceremonial contract signing in Kuala Lumpur on June 14, 2007 and a program design oriented toward an end to end Remote Meter Reading solution for C&I customers. TNB stated the Itron MDM installation would introduce state of the art meter data management and customer service capabilities, streamline business processes and support long term savings and improved customer energy efficiency.
