ECOM Distribution 6000 $5.0B Switzerland Lacima Lacima Analytics ETRM,CTRM 2023 n/a In 2023 ECOM implemented Lacima Analytics to deliver Value-at-Risk reporting across its portfolio of physical and financial contracts in soft commodities, including cotton, cocoa and coffee, using the ETRM,CTRM application category as the functional framework. The program addressed a specific need to automate risk measurement and reporting while providing a consistent market risk view for a merchant supply chain manager operating across multiple trading venues and commodity origins. The deployment focused initially on Lacima Analytics for Value-at-Risk, configuring valuation models for physically backed contracts alongside hedging positions, and embedding stress testing capability to assess basis risk that is intrinsic to commodity merchandising. Phase One delivered model configuration and VaR reporting, and Phase Two extended the implementation to automate daily risk reporting processes so calculations and report generation run as an overnight process. The implementation covered valuation and risk measurement workflows for portfolios that trade in many different markets, aligning model outputs with ECOMs risk governance and stakeholder reporting requirements across trading, risk management and executive reporting functions. Lacima was selected through an extensive RFP process on the basis of quantitative valuation expertise and market risk reporting capabilities, and Lacima Analytics was configured to produce consistent daily risk metrics for global operations spanning ECOMs merchant footprint. Governance and rollout were staged, with the first phase completed within six months and a subsequent phase to operationalize automation and distribution of reports. As an outcome ECOM achieved consistent and more accurate quantification of market risks in soft commodity contracts, including basis risk stress testing, and the automated overnight reporting process has saved countless man hours each day in preparing, checking and disseminating risk reports to stakeholder groups.
Scottish and Southern Energy Utilities 15630 $13.7B United Kingdom Lacima Lacima Analytics ETRM,CTRM 2018 n/a In 2018 Scottish and Southern Energy expanded its Lacima Analytics deployment within the ETRM,CTRM category to deliver portfolio level credit exposure and enhanced limit management capabilities. The Lacima Analytics implementation built on a relationship that began in 2012 and was executed as a series of enterprise projects to consolidate market and credit risk for a complex multi commodity portfolio of gas and power assets. Implementation scope centered on an enterprise wide risk and valuation platform supporting VaR, EaR, credit risk and limits and breach management. Lacima Analytics was configured to perform plant valuations and cashflow forecasting alongside market risk measures, and in 2018 the system was extended to include credit walk forward and Potential Future Exposure calculations to enable portfolio level credit exposure analysis. The deployment used a common set of market models and contract representations to ensure consistent valuation and risk calculations across generation, storage and gas supply contracts. Operational coverage included energy trading desks, risk management teams and asset valuation workflows for storage and generation assets, delivering transparency into underlying model calculations for storage products that was previously unavailable. Governance changes focused on reducing manual processes and improving auditability, with Lacima Analytics providing a full audit history of limit changes and the ability to re run historical limit checks for verification. As a result SSE are able to use Lacima Analytics to produce consistent VaR, PFE and valuation outputs across the portfolio, improving confidence in hedging explanations to senior stakeholders and providing clearer traceability of limit breaches and credit checks.
Sembcorp Industries Professional Services 5347 $5.0B Singapore Lacima Lacima Analytics ETRM,CTRM 2022 n/a In 2022 Sembcorp Industries implemented Lacima Analytics to provide enterprise risk measurement and reporting for ETRM,CTRM across its global portfolio of financial contracts and physical assets. The deployment addressed valuation and cashflow exposures for power, gas, oil, interest rates and FX, and included onboarding of Lacima Trader>Storage for optimisation of gas assets to support new trading operations. Phase one delivered Lacima Analytics modules for parametric, historical and covariance Monte Carlo VaR, configured to Sembcorp requirements and moved into production within three months. Subsequent phases added credit risk PFE, limit and breach reporting and automation of daily VaR and risk reporting processes, while work progressed to model physical assets and implement EaR calculations for asset-level risk measurement. The implementation used a phased architecture to accelerate time to value, integrating Lacima Analytics with Sembcorp data systems and planning interfaces to additional deal capture systems as the global portfolio expanded. Operational workflows were automated to run daily VaR and management reports, centralising valuation and risk measurement for both financial contracts and physical positions and enabling consistent day-to-day trading support and reporting. Governance and rollout emphasized rapid operational readiness for trading, with management reporting tools for credit risk and limits embedded into the risk control framework. Lacima Analytics calculates both Delta VaR and co-variance Monte Carlo VaR on the full trading portfolio in less than one minute, enabling Sembcorp to commence trading activities on schedule. Planned phases will extend market and credit risk coverage across the entire traded contracts and physical asset portfolio and enable detailed analysis of gas storage contracts.
