In 2021 Njalla DNS was provisioned for 1337X Iceland as the privacy focused registrar and Domain Name System (DNS) provider supporting the torrent index's web presence. 1337X Iceland used Njalla DNS to enable domain proxying and anycasted DNS to support web operations and content distribution for its site 1337x.is.
The Njalla DNS implementation centered on authoritative nameserver provisioning, DNS zone configuration and record management, and domain proxying services to obscure registrant details. Configuration work included nameserver updates and propagation controls typical of a Domain Name System (DNS) deployment, aligned to the needs of a small media operator with an external facing content delivery footprint.
Operationally Njalla acted as the registrar level interface with the .is registry ISNIC, and in May 2021 Njalla updated nameservers for 1337x.is in response to legal pressure from ISNIC.
