In 2013, CoBank implemented PingFederate to centralize authentication and federation as part of its Identity and Access Management (IAM) program. PingFederate was used to provide enterprise single sign on for a mix of SaaS and internally hosted applications, and to standardize authentication workflows across customer and internal facing systems.
The implementation of PingFederate included SSO configurations using SAML and OIDC, and design work to support backend process to process authentication flows. The team architected and hardened PingFederate deployments for both external and internal applications, and designed multi factor authentication controls and transaction risk analysis for money movement and other high risk applications.
Integrations were explicitly designed with Active Directory Federation Service, AWS Cognito, CyberArk for privileged access management, and SailPoint for identity governance to create a cohesive IAM fabric. The deployment also supported a hybrid SaaS document sharing application used with external customers, and the application development team provided hands on coding, troubleshooting, source code management, and production support for the PingFederate integrations.
Governance followed formal architecture review board approvals and maintained a repository of reference architectures and best practices, with architecture review and approvals documented for PingFederate SSO and MFA designs. Operational controls incorporated cloud and infrastructure security, application security, disaster recovery planning, threat management, and adherence to OWASP guidance and NIST standards, with regular audit reviews and collaboration with the project management office and enterprise security team.
The IAM program led by the team moved CoBank from a distributed identity management approach to centralized identity management, reducing risk and enabling tighter control over authentication and privileged access. In 2020 DaVita implemented PingFederate to provide standards-based federation across its global estate. PingFederate, deployed as an Identity and Access Management (IAM) platform, was configured to deliver universal single sign-on for workforce systems with a primary workforce and HR focus.

In 2021, DB Schenker deployed PingFederate as part of a centralized Identity and Access Management (IAM) program. The deployment secured workforce, partner and customer access across DB Schenker’s global operations and impacted over 300,000 identities.
PingFederate was configured to provide core federation and single sign-on capabilities for workforce and partner access while migrating 50 business applications into the centralized authentication domain. The implementation introduced FIDO2-enabled risk-based authentication to harden access controls and to reduce integration effort for strong authentication across heterogeneous applications, with standard IAM workflows such as token issuance, assertion handling, and adaptive authentication aligning with enterprise access policies.
The program was delivered with systems integrator iC Consult and covered Europe and global operational sites, centralizing identity orchestration for workforce and partner identity stores. Integrations consolidated authentication flows for 50 business applications, enabling federated identity and reducing bespoke integration effort.
Central governance through the centralized IAM program standardized access policies and deployment patterns across business units, enabling consistent risk-based authentication decisions. The deployment improved security posture through FIDO2-enabled risk-based authentication and reduced integration effort as part of the stated implementation outcomes.
