Bendigo Kangan Institute | Education | 1173 | $70M | Australia | SirsiDynix | SirsiDynix Symphony | Library Management | 2015 | n/a |
In 2015 Bendigo Kangan Institute implemented SirsiDynix Symphony for Library Management. The implementation was supported by the institute Systems & Applications DBA who provided Level 2 support for SirsiDynix Symphony and managed back-end database and integration interfaces across campus systems.
Back-end support for SirsiDynix Symphony included administration of Oracle 11g and multiple Microsoft SQL Server environments, development of stored procedures and complex SQL views for integration and reporting, and creation of linked servers to bridge Oracle and SQL Server data. ETL automation was implemented using SSIS to move and transform data feeds and to create alerts for successful or unsuccessful scheduled jobs.
Symphony was integrated into the institute data ecosystem through the existing data hub that acted as a Banner student repository and distribution point for downstream applications, enabling synchronization of patron and enrollment records. Integration work also encompassed Active Directory synchronization for user accounts, interactions with MS Exchange and web services, and interfaces to other Kangan applications for identity and data consistency.
Operational governance included maintaining SQL Server roles and security logins controlled through Active Directory, job scheduling via SQL Server Agent and Windows events, and production support processes managed by the DBA. Documentation and end-user FAQs were produced and stored in SharePoint to support ongoing operations and Level 2 troubleshooting for library, student services, and administrative user groups.
