Crimson Wine Group Consumer Packaged Goods 194 $67M United States Microsoft Microsoft Azure AD Identity and Access Management (IAM) 2014 n/a In 2014, Crimson Wine Group implemented Microsoft Azure AD as its Identity and Access Management (IAM) solution. The deployment centralized authentication and directory services across the winery's on-premises infrastructure, under the corporate IT organization responsible for servers, storage, firewall, VoIP, and backup and disaster recovery. Microsoft Azure AD was configured to provide directory synchronization, cloud authentication, single sign-on for cloud applications, and basic identity governance capabilities such as group based access controls and role assignments. The implementation followed hybrid identity patterns to support password hash synchronization and federated authentication scenarios consistent with Identity and Access Management (IAM) best practices. The Microsoft Azure AD deployment was integrated with the existing on-premises Active Directory environment and extended identity into Exchange 2016, System Center Configuration Manager 2012 R2, Microsoft Navision, and SQL systems to unify mail, device management, ERP access, and database authentication. Operational scope covered IT administered user accounts and access for business functions including mail, endpoint management, and financial systems across the company’s U.S. vineyard and estate operations. Governance included centralized user provisioning workflows, group lifecycle controls, and administrative role separation to reduce excessive privileges for Navision and SQL access. Rollout was executed by the internal IT team that managed Active Directory and Exchange, using staged activation of cloud authentication for mail and device management to limit operational disruption.
