Ballad Health | Healthcare | 13800 | $2.0B | United States | Epic Systems | Epic Caboodle (ex Cogito Data Warehouse) | Data Warehouse | 2018 | n/a | In 2018 Ballad Health implemented Epic Caboodle (ex Cogito Data Warehouse) as its Data Warehouse to centralize clinical and operational reporting across the health system. The implementation established development, test, release and production environments for Caboodle and related Epic reporting components to support hospital operations, marketing, supply ordering, IT ticketing and resource utilization reporting. Ballad Health configured Epic Caboodle with custom datamarts and data models, building a Market Share datamart and multiple resource utilization datamarts to simplify reporting workflows. The team developed ETL pipelines to import flat files using SQL Server Integration Services and built processes to load hospital supply ordering data and IT ticketing system data into Caboodle, and implemented the Cogito reporting portion of an Epic 2015 major version upgrade which included SlicerDicer, Cubes, Clarity and Business Objects. The deployment architecture included virtual servers and dedicated hardware supporting the Cogito and Clarity platforms, with approximately 20 Windows servers maintained for the Epic reporting stack. Integrations explicitly implemented included Epic Clarity feeding data into Epic Caboodle, ETL via SSIS into the Caboodle repository, and downstream reporting through SlicerDicer, Cubes and Business Objects, forming a contiguous data pipeline from source systems to analytic consumption. Operational governance was formalized through a daily maintenance policy to ensure nightly ETL and reporting processes complete or are remediated promptly, and through role-based stewardship where an Epic Analytics Database Administrator served as the SQL subject matter expert. Release and patch management practices were applied to the Cogito infrastructure during the Epic 2015 upgrade and as part of ongoing platform maintenance to preserve data quality and reporting continuity. Explicit outcomes documented in the implementation include offloading import, archival and quality checks to the Caboodle data warehouse and creating automated ETL flows, which made Market Share and other reporting easier and more efficient and increased productivity for the marketing team. Ongoing custodial activities include patching, upgrades and daily operational support for Epic Caboodle (ex Cogito Data Warehouse) to sustain the Data Warehouse and enterprise reporting functions.

Ballad Health | Healthcare | 13800 | $2.0B | United States | Epic Systems | Epic Slicer Dicer | Analytics and BI | 2018 | n/a | In 2018, Ballad Health deployed Epic Slicer Dicer as part of its Analytics and BI platform. Epic Slicer Dicer was implemented alongside the Cogito reporting stack including Epic Clarity, Caboodle, Cubes and Business Objects to support enterprise reporting and self service analytics. Implementation emphasis centered on Caboodle datamarts and ETL orchestration, with custom data models developed in the Enterprise Data Warehouse Caboodle to find efficiencies and meet business reporting needs. The team built ETL pipelines using SQL Server Integration Services to import flat files and to automate loading of key operational datasets into Caboodle, delivering dedicated datamarts for Market Share, hospital supply ordering, IT ticketing data, and multiple hospital resource utilization metrics. The project included the Cogito reporting portion of an Epic 2015 major version upgrade and ongoing maintenance of development, test, release and production environments for Epic Clarity and Caboodle. Operational infrastructure maintenance covers approximately 20 Windows servers hosting the Cogito Clarity Epic platform, plus virtual servers and hardware supporting Cubes and Business Objects. Governance and operational discipline were implemented through a daily maintenance policy to ensure nightly ETL and reporting processes succeed or are remediated in a timely manner, along with patch and upgrade delivery workflows. Ballad Health maintained subject matter expertise in SQL to support report developers, and the Market Share datamart explicitly offloaded import, archival, and quality checks to the warehouse, making reporting easier and more efficient and increasing productivity for the marketing team.
