Merck Life Sciences 73000 $64.2B United States Controlant Controlant Aurora Platform Real-Time Transportation Visibility 2020 n/a In 2020 Merck deployed the Controlant Aurora Platform to support Real-Time Transportation Visibility for an international cold chain vaccine shipping proof of concept. The implementation was executed by a cross-functional logistics and IT project team based in West Point, PA, and focused on ingesting IoT telemetry and comparing temperature data across multiple vendor devices as part of cold chain monitoring. Controlant Aurora Platform was configured for IoT shipment entry and real-time temperature telemetry ingestion, with core functional capabilities used for shipment tracking, temperature monitoring, and reporting. SAP-generated files were produced using AERA and moved via FTP into the project data flow, and ad hoc SAP reports were developed with AERA to support operational visibility and exception analysis. Integrations included bidirectional data movement between SAP, Sensitech, TransVoyant, and Controlant. The team extracted data from Sensitech and SAP then merged those datasets for upload to the TransVoyant cloud platform, and ocean shipment positions were tracked by calling the TransVoyant real time API in coordination with freight forwarders. Excel was maintained for international shipping schedules and the project produced comparative reports and graphs that aligned Controlant Aurora Platform telemetry with Sensitech and TransVoyant data. Governance was conducted as a staged proof of concept with IT and logistics stakeholders, with the IT analyst responsible for data extraction, report development, and operational onboarding of IoT shipments into Controlant Aurora Platform. Process changes centered on standardized data feeds from SAP through AERA, consolidated telemetry reconciliation across vendors, and operational procedures for entering and monitoring IoT-enabled cold chain shipments, supporting logistics and supply chain functions without declared outcome metrics.
