Mine Safety Appliances | Manufacturing | 5100 | $1.8B | United States | SAP | SAP IBP | Advanced Planning and Scheduling | 2022 | Argano | In 2022, Mine Safety Appliances implemented SAP IBP as its cloud-based Advanced Planning and Scheduling solution to scale supply chain planning and improve visibility in response to COVID related market disruptions. The deployment centered on a singular, cloud instance of SAP Integrated Business Planning, SAP IBP, to provide real-time visibility across demand, sales, inventory, and production capacity and to extend the planning horizon beyond near term focus. The implementation configured SAP IBP capabilities to formalize an integrated sales and operations planning process, enable mid and long term planning, and support collaborative what if scenarios. Functional modules and workflows emphasized demand planning, inventory optimization, production capacity planning, and scenario simulation, enabling cross functional data consistency for planning inputs. Operational coverage targeted MSA Safety's global supply chains and end-to-end supply chain planning across multiple functions, replacing manual handoffs where planning tools had previously been disconnected and plans were loaded into SAP through manual processes. The architecture relied on a single cloud instance to enable collaboration and scale, providing a foundation for broader, cross regional planning and consolidated visibility into global demand. SAP Gold Partner Argano led the rollout using a hybrid Waterfall and Agile delivery approach, aligning with MSA resources to meet timing and budget targets. Governance changes included a formalized S and OP cadence, shared data ownership across planning, sales, and operations teams, and the introduction of scenario based decision workflows, which validated SAP IBP value and positioned the company for expanded planning scope. | |
